Our Summer 2022 DC To Do List

Sharing everything we’d like to do this summer in DC!

Consider this post a written vision board of everything James and I would like to do this summer in DC. Summer 2022 is going to be BIG for us. We’re getting married later this summer, we’re finally in the same city (cheers to no more long distance!), and this is our first summer together since the summer we began dating four years ago.

Summer 2022 will be incredibly busy as we put the finishing touches on our wedding plans. The last few months themselves have felt like a blur. When we talked about what we’d like to do this summer, we both wanted to put an emphasis on slowing down and soaking up this last summer before our wedding. Slowing down just sounds nice right now – especially as we’re in the midst of a sudden heat wave. Even just typing that, I can feel my shoulders roll down my back, releasing tension.

Grill As Much As Possible

We have a grill on our building’s rooftop and I’ll be honest – grills intimidate me. I think it’s the propane tank that makes me nervous. I’ve had both James and my dad show me how to grill but it’s something I’m perfectly content letting someone else take the reins on. Thankfully, James is a master at grilling, especially when it comes to steak! We’ve already shifted from primarily using our oven to heading for the rooftop to cook our dinners and lunches. He handles preparing the meat or seafood and I get in gear to make sure we have veggies and greens on our plates.

In case you missed it, here are 11+ summer meal recipes and ideas! This goal also has a sub-goal where we’d like to take advantage of access to Eastern Market farmer’s market and all its fresh produce. We started this past weekend with grilling up a variety of veggies from the market to make an impromptu and delicious summer steak and veggie salad.

Go To Nats Games

James and I went to a Nats game about a month ago and had an absolute blast! It was barely the third inning when we turned to each other and said let’s go back. Friday games are a little tricky for us to get to with our work schedules and Miss Riley’s schedule. Saturday and Sunday games are well, fair game! Hopefully we’ll get to a fireworks game, too.

Visit Museums

Museums are finally open again! Neither of us have been to a museum since before COVID. Our second date was at the National Portrait Gallery (the zoo was our first!) so visiting museums again will be a nice throwback to our first summer together.

Enjoy Al Fresco Dining Spots (Especially dog-friendly ones!)

James and I try to limit our dining out to the weekends for budget purposes but also because we enjoy cooking together as we unwind from our work days. There are a couple spots that are “ours” that we gravitate toward again and again – where we’ve savored delicious meals and made wonderful memories. A few of these restaurants do have al fresco dining (cannot recommend Angolo Ristorante in Georgetown enough!) and we’d like to add more al fresco spots to our list. They get bonus points if they’re spots we can bring Riley along, too!

Lazy Afternoons In The Park

We are so lucky that we get to live within walking distance of so many beautiful city parks. One of my favorite things about our neighborhood is how much green space we have around us. The idea of rolling out a big blanket and enjoying a lazy afternoon in the park (perhaps with a charcuterie board!) sounds absolutely perfect.
