Winter Work Wear Capsule Wardrobe

How to Wear Winter White to Work | dcgirlinpearls.com

Happy Thursday! I’m bringing back my workwear posts and for 2019, I’m going to kick off each season with a seasonal workwear capsule wardrobe. I know winter technically already started but hey now that DC has had its first snow day of the season, it finally feels like winter.

I curated each item in this 12-piece winter workwear capsule wardrobe to be classic and most likely already hanging in your closet. There’s nothing better than seeing an old favorite piece through new eyes!

Let’s get into it!

Winter Workwear Capsule Wardrobe - DC Girl in Pearls

Crisp Button Down

There’s really no better start to a workwear wardrobe than the classic, crisp button down. After years of battling the dreaded button down gap (you know exactly what I’m talking about), I tried out The Shirt to see if their button downs were really all they claim to be. The Shirt is pricier than the typical button down ($88) but to me, the peace of mind of knowing I’m not showing my bra at the meeting or at an event is well worth it.

The button down can be worn tucked into both pencil skirts and wool pants. Or even do a more trendy half tuck into the wool pants for a casual Friday look! I also love to layer my button downs under my sheath dresses to mix things up a bit.

The Shirt runs TTS, I wear a size medium.

Silk Tank

In the past, I categorized my silk tanks purely to summer but lately, I’ve been loving to wear them tucked into pencil skirts with a blazer for a feminine touch to my work wardrobe. I probably definitely wear this J.Crew Factory scalloped cami in ivory once a week, no shame. It also comes in black and poppy, runs TTS (Medium for me). Also love this scoopneck silk tank, currently on sale for $20!

Banana Republic also has this v-neck silk camisole for $15!

Block Heel Pumps

Most days I’m sitting at my desk. And then there are days when I know I’m going to be on my feet most of the day, running around. Those are the days I reach for my block heel pumps. I love that I can wear them all day without a blister and can get around faster than I could in my heels. You can see how I styled them recently here.

These dusty rose block heel pumps from DSW are $40 and would be really cute for winter and could easily transition to your spring wardrobe.

Tweed Jacket

I avoided tweed jackets for a long time but hey, can’t fight the inevitable. I like these jackets and their unique details that make them look sleeker and more chic than your typical tweed jacket – like the peplum and ruffle trim on these Rent the Runway tweed jackets.

If you’re still warming up to tweed jackets, here are several cute options you can find on Rent the Runway

Leather Satchel

I will never be a small work bag kinda gal. I’ve tried and it just doesn’t work for me. I also have to put my bag through security every day so I opt to find a bag that’s easier to clean. Old Navy satchels have become a favorite since I started in the workforce. Their totes are typically $35 and under, keep an eye out in spring for lighter shades (like blush)! I like the zip-top on this satchel, I’ve lost several lipsticks to an open tote and the security machine.

Jewel Toned Pencil Skirt

When it comes to beating the winter blahs, I opt for jewel tones to cut through the typical winter palette of black and gray. Right now my favorite pencil skirt is a peony pink and I probably wear it once a week, no shame. I also have this emerald pencil skirt, it will look so sharp with a silk tank tucked in and a blazer or tweed jacket!

Cashmere Sweater

Show of hands: Who has had to sit in a freezing cold office wrapped in a blanket all day? Yup, same. A cashmere sweater is a chic way to stay warm and can easily be paired with a button down and pants or a pencil skirt for a quick workday look. This L.L. Bean cashmere sweater comes in several colors and is $99! And Talbots cashmere is on sale right now – this sweater is marked down from $150 to $65! Here are some other cashmere sweater options:

Winter White Pencil Skirt

I know we just talked about jewel toned pencil skirts and how great they are to add some pop to your winter wardrobe butttt there’s just something about winter white. It looks polished and crisp and makes me so glad we’ve thrown the rule about no white after Labor Day out the window.

Here’s my exact white pencil skirt – it’s marked down to $37!

Strappy Closed Toe Pumps

I’ve been trying to up my shoe game lately and break out of my nude heel cycle. Thankfully it’s easy to do with these super cute strappy heel options!

Chic Sheath Dress

Good news! My very favorite sheath dress (I have it in navy, black + maroon) is on sale right now at Macy’s for $70. It’s high-quality fabric and fits TTS, I wear a size 8. In fact, I’m wearing my navy sheath dress (styled here) right now as I type out this post! It’s so comfy and flattering, I think everyone should have this sheath dress in their closet! Believe me, it’ll spark joy.

Wool Straight Leg Pants

I’m working on adding pants back into my work wardrobe. Truth be told, they make me quite self-conscious about my thighs. But that’s a whole other post. When I do get the courage to wear work pants again, I’m going to reach for these high-waist straight leg pants. And bonus: they come in jewel tones 😊Oh, and did I mention they’re on sale for $49?!

Classic Pearl Studs

I mean, c’mon. I had to include pearl studs in my winter workwear capsule wardrobe! It would have been a crime against my own blog not to 😂
