Rent the Runway Unlimited Review - DC Girl in Pearls

Happy Monday!! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. It was my turn to host book club yesterday evening, which means I was super motivated to seriously deep clean my apartment haha. Though honestly I still need to tackle my closet…

This year, I’ve been focusing on my physical health and working to shed the weight gain from the last few years. By adjusting what I’m eating, cutting out junk food, paying attention to when I actually feel full, and putting a priority on moving more and sweating, I’ve been able to shed some weight. But more importantly, I’m feeling like me again. For too long I felt like a pod person and didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin. When I got these outfit photos back, I audibly gasped. Sure, it felt good to see my hard work get results. But these are the first photos of myself I’ve seen in awhile with a genuine smile because I’m truly happy. It’s a wonderful feeling!!

Since I’ve lost weight, my clothes are fitting differently (read: better) and I’m having fun again putting together outfits. Lately, I’ve been wanting to play around a bit more with my personal style and go out of my comfort zone a little and mix it up with accessories.

Here’s where Rent the Runway Unlimited comes in.

What’s Rent the Runway Unlimited?

Rent the Runway Unlimited lets you pick 4 styles for weekend, weddings, work, etc. in each shipment. You get 4 pieces in each box and you can swap anytime, it’s so easy!

How does it work?

Once you sign up for RTR Unlimited and confirm your 4 pieces, your order usually arrives in 2-3 days. It’s incredibly fast!! Your order will arrive in a black bag that comes with a pre-labeled return shipping slip. So once you’ve decided it’s time to return your order, all you do is pack the pieces back up in the black bag and tuck the slip into the protective sleeve and drop off at your local UPS. And if you’re in DC, you can return your bag to WeWork locations or at Rent the Runway’s Georgetown shop!

What sort of clothes + accessories can I find on Rent the Runway Unlimited?

I’ve used RTR Unlimited for a floor-length gown for a military ball, a Zac Posen bag, a casual dress, a Draper James dress I loved for work, and quirky Kate Spade accessories that are super cute but not something I’d want to purchase out right. You can have a ton of fun exploring all the designer labels and playing around with some styles. For me, I’m having fun trying on jumpsuits for size. Since you aren’t committing to purchasing just one piece in a store, you can experiment and play around with your style! See what you like (and what you don’t) in a virtually risk-free space.

Plus, if you find you LOVE some of the pieces and cannot bear to part with them, you can purchase them at a discounted price!!

Are there any clothes I can actually wear to the office?

Yes! They have a whole section that’s for work. I’ll admit, not all of their work edit pieces would fly in a conservative dress environment (*cough* DC *cough*) but they have blazers, chic sheath dresses, and sophisticated bags to uplevel your work wardrobe and supplement what’s already hanging in your closet.

What if I don’t like one or two pieces in my order? Do I have to return the whole order?

Nope! You just return those pieces you don’t like, order 2 more pieces, and then return the whole order when you’re ready. In my first order, I was optimistic and ordered a Lilly maxi dress. It was stunning and I loved its colors and print…but it was waaayyy too long on me. I happened to be running errands in Georgetown that weekend so I tossed it in my bag and dropped it off at the Rent the Runway shop.

In their Georgetown shop, they have scanners at the very front. All you do is enter your email linked to your account and scan the code on the item and drop into the bin. So simple!

How much does it cost?

Rent the Runway Unlimited costs $159/month but you can pause or cancel at any time.
