Easy Classic Spring Outfit

Sharing an easy classic spring outfit that I pulled together from staples in my closet – you can, too!

Happy Monday! Today is my first day back in the office after spending the last couple of weeks working from home and on the road in Arizona. I hope you enjoyed my warm weather vacation OOTDs that I shared on my Insta and TikTok! I had so much fun putting them together from items I had packed in my trusty Mary Poppins bag – aka my Vera Bradley duffel (more on why I love this bag so much here). It inspired me to turn this spark of joy into sharing more OOTD-style content, which brings me back to the old school days of blogging!

This easy classic spring outfit I’m chatting about today is built almost entirely out of spring wardrobe staples. Budgeting and saving have taken priority in my current season of life so I’ve put myself on a limited shopping hiatus. It’s not a no-spend situation, more of a “use what you have” mindset that I’m shifting myself into. I saw a tweet once that said “Being an adult is reminding yourself you have food at home.” It stuck with me because it’s so true! Both about the groceries AND clothes. Thankfully, in the last few years, I’ve worked to take a more thoughtful approach about adding to my wardrobe. Do I already own a piece similar to it? Will it last me awhile or is it a one-season trend? Can I style it multiple ways?

Because of this approach, I’ve been able to “shop my closet” and build out more looks with fewer pieces. Let’s break this easy classic spring outfit look down:

The Shirt Dress

You probably have heard me talk about this shirt dress at least a thousand times at this point but it’s for good reason – it’s my favorite dress to style up or style down! The shirt dress comes in several colorways. I have the blue and white stripe version, the material is more of a poly blend-feeling material. The white version is 100% cotton. I love both and wear them regularly to work (paired with a blazer to give it more structure) and out with friends. I’d consider this an investment piece that will pay dividends for years to come!

The Square Scarf

I love my lemon scarf because it reminds me of the lemon tree in my parents’ backyard. The lemons’ scent and bright, cheerful appearance brings me so much joy whenever I see it. Oops, I’m getting off topic! Square scarves, like this $10 one, are wonderful to have in your closet as a fun accessory. Most of my scarves are polyester and not silk. They get the job done and that’s more in line with my current budget. I got my lemon scarf from Amazon but my favorite larger scarves under $50 are all from Tuckernuck! Scarves are so versatile, you can tie them around your neck a zillion different ways or even around the handle of your purse. Or if you are really ambitious, create a unique headband! Still working on mastering that skill to be honest.

Rattan Handbag

I have had this rattan handbag for 3 years now!! Yet another Amazon find, my rattan handbag has accompanied me on countless vacations, al fresco dinners, and patio drinks. I love that it has a strap option, although I generally prefer to wear it over my forearm and I especially love that this rattan handbag has a zipper closure so I never have to worry about items falling out. This handbag also travels really well in my duffel, I usually stuff it with smaller travel bags to optimize space.

Tortoise Sunglasses

These tortoise sunglasses for $12 were an Amazon find a few years ago. I was going on vacation with my family and wanted a pair of knockaround sunglasses. A pair that I could toss around and wear to the beach and in the ocean without fearing they’d get scratched or lost. These fit the bill but they quickly became a fixture in my sunglasses rotation! They’ve held up well over the years with me throwing them into my tote and I love how cute they look.

Classic White Sneakers or Point Flats

When I originally styled this outfit, I went for a more casual look with my Tretorn sneakers because I was on vacation. For a more put-together spin, I would reach for my Sarah Flint Natalie shoes – the most classic of classic point flats. Mine are in sand calf and I love how they just instantly add a touch of elegance to any outfit – whether that’s jeans and a sweater or a dress that I’m wearing to work on a day when I (literally) want to put my best foot forward.
