Do you have an accessory or a piece of clothing that just feels like warm weather or when you pull it out to wear, you just know that summer is officially here? That’s how I feel about my raffia lantern earrings.
I’m definitely a person who prefers to hibernate during the winter and just stay at home with a good book and a glass of wine. But when warm weather arrives, I do a 180 and aim to spend as much time outside with people as possible, filling my calendar with patio meetups, picnics in the park, rooftop dinners, you get the idea. Now that James and I are no longer long-distance, I’m already filling a note in my phone about all the things I’d like to do together this summer. And there’s a really good chance I’ll be wearing these earrings at a majority of these plans.
Lightweight statement earrings sound like an oxymoron, right? When you think of statement earrings, you usually picture brightly colored, larger earrings that tend to be on the heavy side (Side note: Use these patches to give your ears relief from heavy earrings, they really work!).
The raffia lantern earrings are the total opposite – neutral color and are so light, you almost feel like you aren’t wearing earrings at all. How is that possible? It’s because the earrings themselves are a styrofoam-like material with raffia wrapped around it. But they aren’t fragile and can hold their own. I’ve packed them in my jewelry bag inside my carryon with no problems at all.
Their texture adds a fun detail and extra layer. I love my raffia lantern earrings because they instantly zhush any outfit without being too much! Linen shirt with white jeans? Zhushed. Favorite Lilly dress? Zhushed. A breezy cotton shirt dress? Zhushed. The possibilities are endless!
In fact, because the possibilities are endless, I found myself reaching for these earrings almost every time I met up with friends during summers. It got to a point where they noticed (I hadn’t) and now the running joke is that my raffia lantern earrings are my “patio cocktail” earrings. They just feel like summer and now each time I wear them, I’m reminded of warm weather, sunshine, and happy memories (and Aperol spritzes!).
