I’m still a teensy bit in vacation mode. The adjustment back into the Real World would be a heck of a lot easier if the weather would cooperate. Windy weather? No, thank you. Sunny day by the pool? Yes, please!!
My mother and my cocktail of choice on vacation was the wine spritzer. Scoff if you want, wine snobs of the world. But they are absolutely delicious and even if you seriously question your bartending skills, wine spritzers are completely foolproof. Case in point? There’s a bit of a story there.
Last night, I visited the new Trader Joe’s on 14th Street to acquire valuable wine spritzer ingredients. A friend called and instead of paying attention, I kinda just eyeballed the shelves and tossed items in my basket. And was on my merry way.
There are some cocktails that you need precise ingredients, measurements and expensive wine. Spritzers are not one of those. All you need is wine, a sparkling juice to give it some fizz, citrus slices to add flavor or just rock it as a garnish. Add ice, a silly straw and you are all set! Easy peasy lemon squeezy (into the cocktail!).
In case you’re interested, I used Trader Joe’s Sparkling French Berry Lemonade ($2.99) + Gaetano D’Aquino Pinot Grigio ($3.99) and garnished with a lemon slice.
