why hello

My blog space - DC Girl in Pearls life + style blog

Lip Stain // Aviators // Pearls

I originally had another post planned for today but after Hillary of Making Average Awesome tagged me in her “More About Me” post, I figured I’ll give it a whirl. I thought it’d be a great re-introduction to old readers and a fun introduction to new ones. But there’s a catch!!!!

It’ll be more fun if you respond in the comment section with your answers to any or all of the same questions! Ready?? Okay let’s go!

1. Why do you blog?

I started my blog in 2011 when I had a month to relax before starting a wonderful summer internship at a large public relations firm in DC. I needed a creative outlet because while I love politics and am a complete news junkie I also love to bake, add glitter on anything I can, throw together cute but professional outfits and brunch. DC Girl in Pearls has become my creative space and as I’ve grown, so has my blog (I hope!?). Now that I’m a 24 year old in the Real World, DC Girl in Pearls has evolved to become a place for trying to nail down this whole adult thing and navigate post-college, twenty something-life.

2. What’s your favorite pastime?

Hmm, I would say blogging but I feel like that’s a cop-out. I don’t really have a pastime but on the weekends, I love visiting farmer’s markets, cooking, baking, spending time with friends at brunch and exploring DC. Eating might be a pastime of mine: I have a Google doc of restaurants to try in DC, organized by happy hour, dinner and brunch. Anytime I learn of a new restaurant, I check out the menu + add it to the list. Maybe list making counts as a pastime? Lord knows I have enough of those.

3. Do you have any pets? If so, tell me about them!

My apartment building doesn’t allow pets, which means I have to be the crazy lady asking passersby on the street if I can pet their dog. Thankfully, my neighborhood has a ton of cute dogs, including a humongous St. Bernard named Miles. I can’t even.

4. If you had the option of going to the desert, ocean, or mountains, which would you choose hands down and what time of year?

Well, I just came back from the desert so I would say ocean in late summer. I grew up near Lake Erie and spent a good part of my summers growing up on the beach. I love the sunshine and the sound of waves puts me to sleep. Every.single.time. Just get me a book, a frozen beverage, aviators and a comfy lounge chair and I’ll be in heaven.

5. Is blogging your full time gig? If not, what is?

No, blogging isn’t my full time gig but it is a full time job in itself! My full time job is in political communications.

6. Sweet or savory?

Sweet all the way!! I have a notorious sweet tooth that likes to act up late night. Luckily, I keep a jar of Trader Joe’s cookie butter and a spoon in case of emergencies.

7. Where did you grow up?

I grew up outside of Buffalo, New York in Orchard Park. Go Bills!

8. What is or would be number one on your bucket list?

I’ve never been to Europe so I think number one would be an extended trip starting with the Emerald Isle.

9. What kind of music do you normally listen to?

I grew up on classic songs from the 60s +70s so my most-loved Pandora stations are the Beach Boys, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and Motown. I also listen to Katy Perry and top 40.

10. Bright colors or neutral tones?

Brighter the better is my humble opinion. I love colors so even if I wear neutrals to work, I add a splash of color with a bracelet, scarf or necklace.

11. Tell us one thing about yourself your readers don’t already know.

Hmm well, I have always wanted to learn how to swing dance. I remember watching Grease and being in awe watching those Rydell Rangers dance up a storm to the hand jive. If I could learn how to do a flip like that (watch at 2:17). If I could time travel to another decade, it’d be the 50s. Poodle skirts + jukeboxes + dashboard hula girls? Sign me up!

I hope you enjoyed my post + answers, I’m excited to read your answers below in the comment section!!

Okay now it’s my turn to tag a blogger and I choose…sCe of Summer Wind

I had no idea you’re from the Buffalo area! My husband is from Hamburg. What a small world! PS- I miss Anchor Bar’s wings!

Yes, it really is! I grew up in Orchard Park, just a town over from Hamburg. I have a stockpile of Anchor Bar wing sauce, when I get a craving I get plain chicken fingers and smother it in the sauce with celery and carrot sticks on the side 🙂
