I’m Sleeping Better Because of This Podcast

Use this free podcast to sleep better! - DC Girl in Pearls

Happy Friday!! I’m really excited about this weekend. Tonight I’m headed to see Reese Witherspoon speak about her book at the Anthem and I CANNOT WAIT! Legally Blonde was my AIM avatar back in high school and then in college I had the movie poster in my dorm room. So yeah, I’m going to fangirl so hard. Anyway…

In the last few weeks I’ve had an issue with falling and staying asleep. I’ve been a night owl for as long as I can remember and usually get a second burst of energy around 10 p.m. During the week I take melatonin before bed to help unwind. Trader Joe’s Chewable Peppermint Melatonin has been my go-to since college. Until my local TJ’s was completely out of stock. *Cue panic*

I spent too many nights either staring at my ceiling, waking up at 2 a.m. or feeling like I had just dozed all night instead of getting into a deep sleep state. I did some Googling for tips to sleep better and I came across this podcast. I listen to podcasts for creative inspiration, to get my true crime/ghost story fix, and even for tips on happiness. But it didn’t occur to me there’d be a podcast to help me sleep better. Who knew?

Sleep With Me Podcast

The Sleep With Me Podcast describes itself as “the podcast that puts you to sleep.” Its host, Drew Ackerman, regales listeners with calm yet imaginative bedtime stories. He’s not a health professional or sleep doctor but created this podcast based on his own struggle with insomnia and how talk radio lulled him to sleep.

So…what are these bedtime stories?

Honestly, I’ve been listening to it for a few days and I couldn’t tell you a single fact or part of the story. And based off reading the reviews, that’s true for a lot of listeners. Drew, whose podcast personality is called Scooter, has mastered the art of calm, monotonous storytelling. You can read descriptions of the stories here. Instead of bedtime stories with a lot of action, Drew describes the minutiae of the story to help your mind let go of those racing thoughts and drift off.

Does it work?

YES! I know this sounds crazy but I’m telling you it really works. Each episode of Sleep With Me has more than 70,000 listeners! That’s insane! I tried everything to help me fall asleep and nothing worked like this. Honestly, it may have replaced melatonin for me. Think of this podcast as brain candy. Each episode is about an hour but I’m probably only awake for the first 20 minutes of it. It works like a charm, and if you’re struggling to fall asleep I highly suggest you try it out! When I play the podcast before bed, I consistently wake up feeling refreshed and like I got a good night’s rest for the first time in awhile.

I hope you have a great weekend!
