Happy Friday!! About a month ago, I posted a question on my Instagram Stories asking for recommendations of your favorite podcasts to binge ahead of my 5 hour flight to Arizona. I was so spoiled for years with my barely an hour-long flight to Buffalo that a 5 hour flight seems like for-ev-er. So I always load up on as much entertainment as possible to fill up those hours.
I asked and you guys really delivered!
As the podcast suggestions came in, several of you asked what podcasts other folks were recommending. And so I thought I’d share all the responses here, organized by category! Since it’s a long weekend and supposed to be a balmy 21 degrees on Monday, it feels like the perfect weekend to hit play + get lost in a new favorite podcast.
Or, if you’re me, finally hang your art + prints so they’re not just leaning against the wall.
Here are 23 of the best podcasts to binge!
Comedy
Absolute Worst Podcast
Megg loves this podcast “because the hosts are hilarious, insightful, and always looking to learn from others perspectives. Sometime it’s so funny I can’t listen on public transit because I’m scared I’ll look like a crazy lady!”
Girls Gotta Eat
Katie says Girls Gotta Eat is a must-listen, it’s “kinda raunchy but the girls that run it are AWESOME.”
The Morning Toast
The Morning Toast covers TV shows + celebrity news. I checked out their Youtube channel and their setup background is hot pink so I’m already on board!
Gilmore Guys
Two guys do a deep dive into each episode of Gilmore Girls “to analyze, praise, mock, and gab about all things Stars Hollow.”
Ask Iliza Anything
Alyssa says, “I love her stand up specials on Netflix. She is a truly funny woman and I find myself agreeing more and more with her and her opinions on women and feminism.”
Mystery Show
In each episode of Mystery Show, host Starlee Kine solves a minor mystery that cannot be solved using Google (what). Unfortunately, Mystery Show has been cancelled but you can still listen to old episodes!
News + Politics
This American Life
CK learned about this podcast from a co-worker and says, “I enjoy the fact that they are able to highlight a different aspect of our society in a unique and compelling way. The in-depth reporting of the various stories gives the listener insight on other people’s lives that are relatable and different.”
On Heir
Farrah says, “It’s two royal reporters in London who report for newspapers and magazines. I started listening during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wedding mania. They have lots of inside royal sources that many others don’t. I also love their accents!”
The Michael Knowles Show
Molly listens to The Michael Knowles Show “to keep up with current events and news and I enjoy his take, especially his wit, on the news of the day.”
Literature
Binge Mode: Harry Potter
My friend Jenn loves this podcast “because it’s just a deep dive into Harry Potter and HP is my very favorite thing. It looks at the entire Harry Potter universe as it goes through each book and it’s amazing to see how JK Rowling connected everything even that early on in the first books.” Warning though, it’s full of spoilers!!
True Crime
Up and Vanished
Up and Vanished is an investigative journalism podcast where the hosts take an in-depth look into people who have gone missing.
And That’s Why We Drink (My Personal Favorite Podcast!)
My friend Kendall (Remember her? You gotta check out my post with her for our engagement-esque photoshoot 😂) suggested this podcast, which also happens to my favorite podcast. I even saw them live back in November when they came to DC! Two BFFs, Christine and Em, swap stories about ghosts/paranormal events and true crime. Their banter is the best and you will laugh hysterically, guaranteed!
Serial
Molly says, “I like Serial because of its suspense and drama. I enjoy thriller and investigative type shows and movies and this podcast is just like an edge of your seat type of experience. I can’t ever listen to just one!”
My Favorite Murder
My Favorite Murder was my gateway into the world of true crime comedy podcasts! Alyssa shares, “I’m obsessed with true crime and serial killers. Georgia and Karen tell these true murder stories that are funny, real, and respectful to the victims.”
Murder Made Me Famous
This podcast is documentary-style and covers killers who became notorious when their crimes made them household names.
Crime Junkie
My friend Hayley says, “I love Crime Junkie! You can tell the hosts really research the cases and are really open about the process. I also enjoy that the hosts can break up the tension and be lighthearted when needed, but you still feel a genuine sense of empathy from them.”
Celebrity Hosted
Anna Faris Is Unqualified
Anna Faris Is Unqualified is an advice podcast hosted by none other than Anna Faris. This is also a favorite podcast of mine! Anna, along with a celebrity guest, gives advice to strangers over the phone. She’ll also do various sketch improv games before with her guest and her quick-wit and outrageous sense of humor will have you hitting subscribe quickly.
Armchair Expert
Dax Shepard is an armchair expert, on a mission to uncover human “truths” and discusses people’s setbacks that ultimately led to their growth. Also, who knew Dax has a degree in anthropology?!
Pop Culture + Society
The Dream
The Dream explores the world of pyramid schemes and multi-level marketing, this podcast sounds like a must for anyone who has Fyre Fraud on their Hulu to-watch list.
Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness
Getting Curious covers every topic imaginable as Jonathan from Queer Eye discusses whatever topic he’s curious about with an expert in that particular field.
Bitch Sesh
Rachel says, “Bitch Sesh is awesome if you like The Real Housewives and Vanderpump Rules. Casey Rose Wilson and Danielle Schneider are the hosts and they do amazing and funny recaps of each episode. They do a deep dive on the episodes and even bring in guests. Casey and Danielle live in LA and are also in the entertainment industry and also talk about their lives in an amusing and self-deprecating way. They will make you laugh out loud!”
Brain Candy
This podcast describes itself as a “sugar rush for your intellectual side,” which immediately got my attention. Alyssa likes this podcast because she “always feels really smart after listening. Sarah and Susie always seem to talk about stories I’ve missed or just never heard of.”
The Simply Luxurious Life
The Simply Luxurious Life seeks to help you live your best life with episodes like “Ideas for Simple Everyday Care” and “The Importance of a Daily Routine.”
