{Out & About in DC: Eastern Market}

I had an absolutely wonderful weekend filled with friends, fun and brunch! Several friends and I went to Paolo’s in Georgetown on Sunday and I had the most delicious chicken Caesar wrap ever. The wrap was a thin pizza crust and was perfection.

After brunch, we made the trek to Eastern Market, which can be long but always so worth it! I love wandering from vendor to vendor to sample their produce/products. My highlights were several to-die-for heirloom tomatoes and a phenomenal spicy salsa from which I had to drag myself away.

I did break down and purchase fresh lemonade because it was sweltering hot out. Lemonade is always a good choice, right? Then lo and behold, next to the lemonade stand was the pickle vendor I was insistent on finding. Lucky me! I purchased several of their “hot ‘n spicy” pickles and proudly carried my treasures around Eastern Market with me.

To escape the heat, we visited Capitol Hill Books, which is a tiny used bookstore packed with character and books galore! Seriously, you walk up a slanted stair case and the shelves on the wall are crammed with books. There is a method to the madness but you really have to dig to find a book. In my humble opinion, that’s what makes it worth it.

Finally, we visited one of my favorite consignment shops in the District: Clothes Encounters of a Second Kind. I stumbled upon this shop a couple of years ago with my mother and I love it. It’s great for finding classic pieces: I spied a Lilly gingham skirt for $12! I also spied a gorgeous pink & navy trench for $85 but I’m on a budget so it was a no go.

Eastern Market can be a bit of a hike for those who don’t live on the Hill but it’s always a fantastic experience and so worth the Metro fare!
