Suede Leggings: Reagan Suede Leggings (I’ll gush more about these suede leggings in my actual post but first off, they are incredibly warm and I’m in love with them. I went with a size medium and loved that they hit me at my ankle, which never happens when you’re 5’3″ like me. If you’re taller, I’d go with a size large. It fit exactly the same as the medium in the waistline but had a few extra inches of length. Oh, and these suede leggings are $72!) // White Tee: J.Crew Factory Studio Tee (Seriously the BEST white tee out there and it’s always under $20 and on sale on top of that, I suggest you stock up) // Blazer: J.Crew Schoolboy Blazer (It’s true to size, I went with a size 8 regular instead of petite so I could cuff the sleeves and show off the fun stripe detailing) // Scarf: A gift from my family but here’s a similar style that I love // Riding Boots: Trinee Riding Boot (Under $100)
Hi guys! Meet my new favorite fall and winter fashion staple: suede leggings. Charmed, I’m sure. Last winter, I practically lived in my faux leather leggings (evidence here) but this winter is looking like it’ll all be about suede leggings. Here’s why I’m now a convert and how to style suede leggings two ways:
Why suede leggings are amazing
Suede leggings are cozy pajamas in disguise. They’re incredibly comfy and you would not believe how warm they are! My one issue with leggings is that even when they’re a thicker fabric, they don’t always hold up against the chill of winter unless you’re wearing a long coat. Suede leggings are a cut above and I was toasty warm walking around Capitol Hill taking photos in them. I also love how they’re sleeker than jeans or regular leggings. Plus, I’m really into the equestrian vibe they get when paired with riding boots. Though the closest I’ve gotten to a horse lately was seeing the Chincoteague ponies a few years ago!
Sizing + fit
I tried the Reagan suede leggings on at Tuckernuck’s shop because I was torn between the medium and the large. I ended up going with the medium leggings because they actually hit me at my ankle. Which almost never happens when you’re 5’3″ like I am. The medium and large fit exactly the same in the waist, the only difference was the large had a few extra inches of material at the ankle. So if you’re tall, I’d size up!
Also, good news for us DC girls: Right now the Reagan suede leggings are expect to ship online in mid-November but are available right now in their Georgetown store!
Suede leggings outfit #1
I went with a more equestrian feel for the first look and styled the suede leggings with classic pieces already in my closet. A white tee (love this one for $19) and a navy blazer are all you need to put together a polished yet casual outfit. You can pair with riding boots for the full-on equestrian look or you can style with white sneakers for a more casual look. I’ve got my eye on this pair by Sperry).
Outfit #2
Suede Leggings // Sweater: L.L. Bean Fisherman Tunic (The fisherman tunic runs large so I would size down, I’m wearing a small) // Loafers: Leopard Print Loafers (Old Land’s End, but I found similar leopard loafers for under $100 here, here, here and here for under $100. This pair by Sam Edelman is a little more expensive at $140 but the chain detail looks really chic and I think it’d look really smart for work) // Bag: Coach Crossbody (Styled with a skirt here and with white jeans here)
Suede leggings outfit #2
I went with a more casual look for outfit #2 mostly because I wanted an excuse to wrap myself in my fisherman tunic. The L.L. Bean fisherman tunic runs large so I would size down, I’m wearing a small. I love L.L. Bean’s signature fisherman sweater, which hits right at my waist, but I love that their fisherman tunic provides a little more coverage. Ideal for a leggings scenario. Their tunic also has their pewter zippers on both sides that adds an edgy detail to this classic piece. I’ve recommended the fisherman tunic to several friends and they all loved it. The tunic comes in a few colors, I’d purchase now because usually this piece will sell out halfway through winter.
Leopard is such a fun pattern and it fits so perfectly with fall color palettes like deep reds and rich browns.
Other easy ways to style suede leggings
For the office: I wouldn’t be able to wear suede leggings to the office even on casual Friday. But if your office has a trendier dress code, I’d pair suede leggings with a crisp white button down and classic ballet flats.
For a holiday party: Suede leggings would be ideal for a holiday party because stretchy waistband = more Christmas cookies, yes? Style suede leggings for a holiday party with a plaid shirt (like this L.L. Bean blackwatch fitted flannel or festive tartan button down)
For brunch: I’ve been crazy about capes lately (here are a roundup of cute capes under $100) so for brunch with the girls I’d pair suede leggings with an oversized cashmere turtleneck (bonus points if you master the front tuck) and plaid cape.
