My Favorite Tropical Green Smoothie

I don’t think I stopped moving the whole long weekend. The beautiful sunshine and 60 degree temperatures kept me outdoors as much as possible. I definitely hit well over 10,000 daily steps each day. It just felt so good to get outside and move. I love taking walks and if there’s enough time, I’ll take a good walk over the Metro or Uber any day of the week.

On Monday, I got talked into taking a 7am workout class (Yes, that’s right… 7 in the morning) with my friend Carole Anne. She has been raving about this dance workout for several weeks and when she asked if I wanted to join her, I immediately said yes. And then she threw in the 7am part. Tricky, tricky.

((305 Fitness)) is a 55-minute rhythmic cardio class inspired by its area code: Miami. Rhythmic cardio is better described as not stopping to move and jumping around for the first 30 minutes. I’d like to think I’m in decent shape but my god, I was glistening aggressively about 10 minutes into the class. I loved the music (You can’t go wrong with Whitney Houston!) and the instructor Juli was a ball of energy who kept the class motivated to keep going even when you thought your legs were about to fall off. If you’re in the Logan Circle area, definitely give this workout a chance! I’m not a dancer but I was able to pick up the choreography and you move so quickly, the 55 minutes flies by. Did I mention there’s an in-house DJ?! It feels more like a dance party than a workout but trust me, you’ll be sore after.

After a post-workout Trader Joe’s run and a detour to sip mimosas and gab, I headed back to my apartment to shower and nap. But first, I needed to refuel and my sweet tooth was really kicking in. Luckily, I had all the ingredients on hand to make my favorite tropical green smoothie. Spinach, coconut milk, frozen pineapple and mango and a heaping spoonful of chia seeds make this one tasty green smoothie! I also love it for when late-night sweet cravings start.

The #1 trick to making a green smoothie is blending the liquid and spinach (or whatever leafy green you like to use) first before adding it in the rest of the ingredients. I love spinach but definitely don’t want any green chunks in my smoothie! This trick makes sure your smoothie is…well…smooth.

Here’s my other favorite green smoothie recipe. It’s so funny to look back at old posts and see how much my blog photography has improved!

Thanks, Catherine! I’ve been working on moving from the auto settings to manual on my camera. So scary but also so much fun!
