My New Beauty Weapon

Beautycounter Brilliant Brow Gel Review - DC Girl in Pearls #beautycounter #brows #browgel

When it comes to my everyday makeup routine, I’m pretty set in my ways. Eyeliner, moisturizer, CC cream, under eye concealer (very, very necessary), mascara, blush, lipstick. Boom. Out the door!

I never really thought to do anything with my eyebrows, aside from threading. It just seemed like an extra thing and I already had my routine down pat so I figured I didn’t need to jump on the eyebrow trend.

But then I saw a photo of me that was snapped off the cuff one day at work when Chesty, the Marine Corps. mascot, was on the Hill. A cute English bulldog dressed up in a uniform? Yup, you better believe I’m getting a picture 😍

When I saw the pic, Chesty looked as adorably grumpy as you’d imagine…and I looked like I had no eyebrows! Zero. Zilch. Nada. So I started looking into eyebrow products. The Glossier Boy Brow has a cult following but since I’m working towards better beauty, I decided to try out Beautycounter’s Brilliant Brow Gel.

Here’s what I thought:

Why should I use an eyebrow product?

The right brow shape can help frame your eye, balance the face, which helps to complement your other features, and make you look more polished.

What does the Brilliant Brow Gel do?

The Brow Gel comes in two formulas, invisible and tinted.

The invisible brow gel is flake-proof, foolproof, so easy to use, and leaves your eyebrows soft to the touch.

The tinted brow gel is also flake-proof and foolproof. Plus it’s buildable so it fully coats your eyebrows and gives the appearance of fuller eyebrows. The tinted brow gel comes in 4 shades: Light, Medium, Dark, and Soft Black. Each shade corresponds to the Color Define Brow Pencil shades of the same names, takes the guesswork out of matching the eyebrow products! I’ll chat more about the Brow Pencil a little ways down.

Which shade will look most natural on me?

If you have light to dark blonde and strawberry blonde hair, go with Light! This is the shade I have.

Medium brown is for light to medium brunette hair.

Dark is a warm deep brown for dark brunette hair.

Soft Black works for deep brunette to black hair.

And of course, Invisible is clear for all hair colors.

How do I use the Brilliant Brow Gel?

Apply the brush directly to your brows and comb the product through, following the natural shape and curve of your eyebrow. The brows will set where you place them. If you want to create a more fuller look, the Brilliant Brow Gel is buildable so just apply additional coats.

Application Tip: Wipe the tip of the applicator before you start applying and use less product. It’s easier to build up product than to remove and start all over again, especially when you’re trying to get out the door quickly in the morning!

Do I need to use another eyebrow product with the Brilliant Brow Gel?

Beautycounter also has a Color Define Brow Pencil ($24), which is great for added volume and definition and helps fill in spaces. I personally use the Brow Pencil because of some unfortunate empty spaces. The brow pencil is also helpful to even out the color! But if your eyebrows are all set after the Brow Gel, I don’t think the brow pencil is necessary.

Application Tip: Draw short, hair-like lines to create a more natural appearance.

What’s the difference between Brow Pencil and Brow Gel?

Think of a brow pencil as a filler and is best for when you have sparse eyebrows and need to fill them in for a full eyebrow.

Brow gel is a setter for when you have pretty full brows but they can sometimes rebel.
