The struggle could not have been more real yesterday. Convinced I had safely loaded my outfit photos to my computer, I deleted them off my SD card to make room for this weekend’s photos. And then when I went to edit the photos, they were nowhere to be found. And my stomach immediately hit the floor.
Stuff happens and you gotta brush yourself off and move on. Turning lemons into lemonade (which sounds so good right now in my hot hot hot apartment), I went to my phone and scrolled through photos I’d recently snapped. So I thought this post could be kinda of a smorgasbord of life lately. Let’s get started!
Around Town
Amazon Books in Georgetown
Earlier this summer, I made a promise to myself to get back into the habit of reading. I read the news all day long at work but reading for pleasure had fallen out of my daily habits. I’ve always been a bookworm (the reason I had to wear glasses starting in 5th grade) and looking at my Goodreads count of how many books I’d read lately was just depressing. I’m happy to say carving out time in my day to read for fun has been sticking and it’s the part of my day I most look forward to. The other day I found myself in Georgetown and I just had to pop into Amazon Books on M Street! I was pretty proud of myself for only walking out with 2 books, I easily could have picked up at least 8. The store was amazing! Under each book is an actual Amazon review and it’s set up just like Amazon with “If You Like This, You’ll Love.” I really shouldn’t go in to Amazon Books unsupervised…
I picked up Crazy Rich Asians and The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck
Jeni’s Ice Cream
I finally made it to Jeni’s! And I gotta say, it lived up to the hype. I went with my friend Hayley after a 305 Fitness class (Because balance, right?) and since it was approximately a billion degrees out, I got a double scoop of ooey butter cake. Heavenly is the word that comes to mind when I think of this treat. I’m going to have to come up with more reasons to venture out to U Street to get more ice cream cones!
Summer Cooking
I made this meal last Friday and it was so tasty and simple to make! On a whim, I picked up Trader Joe’s Roasted Garlic and Herb Butter Spread and now I’m plotting how to add this butter to every dish possible. First up, salmon. Here’s how I prepare salmon: On a paper towel, pat each salmon fillet to remove excess moisture and season both sides with salt and pepper. I then put them in a large bowl and drizzle Wegman’s Basting Oil over each side. Then, heat up oil in a skillet over medium heat and place the salmon in the skillet. Cook until about 3/4 of the salmon is opaque and then flip over to finish cooking. When the salmon is almost completely opaque, turn the heat off and place a pat of Roasted Garlic and Herb Butter Spread on top. Once the butter begins to melt, use a fork to spread the butter over the entire top of the salmon.
I paired this salmon with a caprese salad (Fresh basil, sliced tomatoes, burrata cheese, and balsamic). Yum!!
Phew, we survived the photo deleting shock! Hopefully the rest of the week goes smoother : )
