Staycation at Canopy Hotel in Bethesda

Staycation, all I ever wanted!

I’m saving up my vacation + travel time for August when I’m heading to Charleston for a wedding and California to meet up with the fam but I’ve been antsy to get out of DC. So when Canopy by Hilton Hotel in North Bethesda offered a night’s stay, I jumped at the chance to get out of the city and have a change of scenery.

About a 10 minute walk from White Flint Metro stop, Canopy Hotel is nestled in a cute area that feels like a mini oasis with shops, restaurants, and coffee houses. After checking in and dropping my bag off in my room, I did what any sensible person does on a vacation: I went in search of a cocktail.

And boy, did I find one (read: several).

Side note: Canopy Hotel has local wine and spirits tastings starting at 5pm!

Above us, we’ve got the Pirate Jenny on the left and a sangria on the right. Both were excellent and made with fresh ingredients right in front of us. The Pirate Jenny was right up my alley (gangplank?) with habanero-infused tequila. Normally, it’s made with carrot syrup but since they were all out that day, strawberry was used in its place. It was the perfect mix of spicy and sweet and very refreshing as a summer cocktail.

After a couple of drinks, we ordered their nachos off the nibbles menu and boy, did they hit the spot. These nachos came with the works: fresh guacamole, pico de gallo and so.much.melted cheese. Heaven.

At this point, the hotel’s chef came out to the bar and chatted with us and the bartender. Throughout the stay, the entire staff was friendly and made you feel welcome immediately, which I loved. We placed our dinner orders at the recommendations of the chef and headed outside to the hotel’s patio.

The patio was such a fun outdoor space! Between cornhole and comfy couches, I was a happy camper waiting for dinner to arrive. It was a beautiful out, just the perfect summer night.

I ordered the crab cake for dinner after hearing it was the chef’s specialty dish. The crab cake certainly lived up to the hype! The crab cake was incredibly flavorful and filled with huge chunks of crab and very little fillers, just the way I like it. The crab cake sat on a bed of fluffy couscous with roasted corn and avocado crema. Yummm!!

And since there’s always room for dessert, the carrot cake was delicious with sweet cream cheese frosting (the BEST kind of frosting). Heart eye emojis.

While we’re still talking about food (a favorite topic of mine), let’s chat about the Canopy Hotel breakfast. As soon as I laid eyes on the French toast, it was a done deal. I loaded up my plate with French toast and then helped myself to the Nutella spread and added a drizzle of hazelnut syrup for good measure. You guys. Hazelnut syrup is where it’s at. I topped it with fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries and I was on Cloud 9.

I get now why breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

They also offered a frittata and assorted pastries and bagels along with freshly-squeezed juice.

Canopy Hotel kinda felt like being in a treehouse, I know that sounds silly but since the hotel starts on the 3rd floor, that’s how I felt. I mean, look at this patio!

The entire hotel was filled with natural light and had such a relaxing ambiance. It was exactly the staycation feel I was looking for and I left Canopy Hotel feeling refreshed and recharged. Canopy Hotel was a perfect escape from the DC chaos!
