In my continued effort to welcome menfolk to the world of DC Girl in Pearls, I selected an honorable order for every gentleman.
According to an urban liquor legend, the name “Old Fashioned” was for a Bourbon whiskey at a gentlemen’s club in Louisville, Kentucky: the Pendennis Club. A bartender at the club created the concoction but the drink achieved fame when one of the club’s members, a bourbon distiller, brought it to the iconic Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
Ingredients
2 oz bourbon whiskey
2 dashes of Angostura bitters
1 splash of water
1 tsp sugar
1 maraschino cherry
1 orange wedge
Preparation
Mix sugar, water and bitters in an old fashioned glass.
Drop in the cherry and orange wedge and muddle into a paste using the back of a spoon (unless you happen to have a muddler lying around).
Pour in bourbon, fill with ice and stir.
