Happy Monday!! I feel like this was one of those weekends where I did not stop moving. On Friday high school alumni association had a happy hour at the Watergate Hotel, I’d never been before so I was really excited to check it out. The rooftop view was absolutely stunning and it was wonderful to share stories + memories with old classmates over prosecco. I squeezed in a barre class on Saturday morning (My birthday + Thanksgiving are looming on the horizon and I’m trying to get ahead of the indulging season) and then shot a few outfits for upcoming posts. Since I have a full-time job, I can really only shoot these looks on weekends.
As soon as my friend and I wrapped up shooting, we headed to J. Paul’s in Georgetown for dinner before The Book of Mormon. I hadn’t been to J. Paul’s in awhile and now I’m wondering why not. I ordered their peach basil jalapeño julep since there isn’t a single word in that cocktail name that I don’t like and it was delicious. The other highlight of the meal were our mac ‘n cheese bite appetizers, which came with a ramekin of melted cheese and another ramekin of a spicy tomato jam. The tomato jam was tasty but guys, dunking fried bites of mac ‘n cheese into more melted cheese was exactly what my life has been missing until now. Proving the point that melted cheese is a cure-all. I could probably write an entire blog post dedicated to the mac ‘n cheese bites but I’ll shorthand it for you: Go to J.Paul’s. Order the mac ‘n cheese bites. Dip into melted cheese. Thank me later.
The Book of Mormon was just as hilarious/wildly inappropriate as I’d hoped. There were plenty of laugh out loud moments and quite a few of “Omg, did they really just say?!” glances at my friends. Also, it was really amusing to see the actual LDS had a full-page ad in the playbill saying “Our version is sliiightly different.” Gotta appreciate good marketing.
Okay enough rambling, let’s chat about this outfit:
The Shirt
The Shirt is aptly named because it’s become the shirt to wear to work, to The Book of Mormon at the Kennedy Center on Saturday night, to pretty much anywhere. I love button downs, they’re a classic wardrobe staple. But real talk: I always spend the entire day worrying about that annoying gap around the chest. I’ve spent for-ev-er in front of the mirror before work checking my button down from every possible angle to ensure there’s no gap. And then at some point during the day, I catch a glimpse of myself and that.gap.is.there. HOW?! WHY?! I don’t understand what type of sorcery that gap is. But The Shirt has the answer. They have these fancy hidden buttons on their button downs so the shirt will lay flat on the chest. It is absolutely magic and I had to stop myself from buying them in every color possible.
Trench Coat
In my junior year of college, I bought a trench coat from Banana Republic and it was my favorite piece. I was interning that semester at a lobby firm and felt so grown up heading downtown in my trench coat. After living in this trench coat for years, I finally had to admit 2 years ago that my trench coat had seen better days and I began my search for a new trench coat. I finally struck gold with this Michael Kors trench coat! It has a removable hood, which is perfect for those out-of-nowhere rain showers DC gets. It runs TTS, I have it in medium and I can easily wear a blazer underneath it. My trench coat is on sale at Nordstrom right now for $149 – this is the lowest price you’ll find it so I highly recommend snapping one up now!
Plaid Blanket Scarf
It’s not fall without a good blanket scarf, right? I posted about this J.Crew Factory plaid blanket scarf last week in Plaid Pieces Under $50, it’s $35 and right now it’s 35% off with code JUSTINTIME. I love the colors in this plaid so expect to see this blanket scarf styled a few different ways on the blog. I’m also a fan of L.L. Bean’s signature plaid scarf in “Gray Heather,” it’s also under $50.
Ponte Leggings
I’ve sworn by Lou + Grey’s ponte leggings for years, they’re thicker than regular leggings so I don’t feel self-conscious when I wear them outside of my apartment. These leggings have made it through 2 years and have no holes or pilling. And since they’re made of thicker material, they’re warm during the winter months. They’re $50 at full price and well worth the fifty bucks but currently on sale for $39.50.
Bean Boots
I was secretly okay with this weekend’s rainy weather because it was just the excuse I needed to pull out my Bean boots. Mine are the 8 inch Classics and right now are perfectly warm with just a regular pair of socks. Once winter hits, I’ll break out the camp socks to stay cozy. If you’re looking to purchase a pair of Bean boots, you should check out my guide to buying Bean boots before you hit purchase.

I hear you on the mystery gap! I was wondering if you had any advice on plus size prep shopping opportunities? I find most of my favorites (J Crew, Banana Republic, Brooks Brothers, etc) don’t cater to women my size. Any insight on companies that do?
Talbots, L.L. Bean and Land’s End have a ton of plus size options! I’d suggest checking out those places 🙂
