Happy November!! November is my favorite month of the year, hand’s down. The weather is the perfect blend of sunny with a slight chill in the air, the best time to break out your puffer vest. The leaves are at their peak with colors so vibrant they don’t seem real. And I’ll let you in on a little secret, I’ve always loved Thanksgiving over Christmas. That’s probably sacrilegious and I paused a moment for a lightning bolt to strike me down after I typed that but it’s true. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas carols with the best of ’em and will binge-watch the Rudolph claymation movies with my family while actually bingeing on homemade Christmas cookies. But for me, Thanksgiving is a time to pause and think about the year that’s almost over and the year that’s to come. My birthday is just a few days after Thanksgiving so the self-reflection is at an all-time high.

That brings me to the other big reason I love November: My birthday. My family takes birthdays very seriously and I love being able to surround myself with family and friends and gab and eat cake. I’ve had the same birthday cake as far back as I can remember: Vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

Normally at this point, I’d have my summer clothes packed into SpaceBags and reaching for my cable-knit sweaters but DC hasn’t quite made the turn into full-on fall just yet. I’m taking advantage of this crazy moment to break out an unexpected fall color: Peony pink.
