Sharing my favorite linen outfit for hot, late summer days – since summer in DC doesn’t seem to end until October!
Relaxed Fit Linen Shirt (I’m normally a medium in J.Crew but with the relaxed fit, I sized down to a small) // Best White Jeans Ever (Run TTS, I wear a size 8. They’re under $100 and right now are 25%!) // J.McLaughlin Wicker Top Handle Purse (aka my Sophia Petrillo purse) // Rattan Headband (Comes in a pack of 3 on Amazon)
Summer 2022 went by in a blur for me. Planning and preparing for our wedding took up almost all of our free time – it almost felt like we had two full-time jobs! I was also completely exhausted after our Big Day. Thank goodness I was working from home the week after because I needed all the extra sleep I could get.
Now that I’ve resurfaced from post-wedding exhaustion (hi!), James and I are trying to squeeze every last moment of summer while we can. Good thing we live in DC, where it seems like summer weather stretches until October. Rooftop dinners from the grill, catching up with friends over a glass of wine at patio bars, reading outside in the park, I’m ready to do it all!
Linen and I used to have a love-hate relationship because while I loved its breathability, I hated how quickly it wrinkled. I’m one of those people who actually enjoys ironing and it bugs me when my clothes are wrinkled. After a few DC summers, I learned to let go of my wrinkles hangup and embrace linen and its super powers to keep those hot, late summer days at bay.
My Favorite Linen Outfit for Late Summer Days
When it comes to linen, J.Crew’s Baird McNutt is my favorite. I’ve had a few of the Baird linen items over the years. Their quality is great and they hold up in the wash so well! Most of my linen shirts are button downs but when I spotted this relaxed fit linen shirt, I knew it had a place in my closet.
The relaxed fit is boxy but it still works well tucked into a pair of white jeans or shorts. I kept it loose this time and left it untucked. This linen shirt, white jeans, and Jacks has probably been my most-worn outfit this summer on weekends. It’s casual but still makes me feel put-together.
Normally, in J.Crew I’m a dependable size 8/medium fit. With this shirt’s boxy, relaxed fit, I sized down to a small and there is still plenty of breathing room. Embrace the relaxed fit!
To dress up this linen tee for al fresco dinner, try tucking it into a white midi skirt and then finishing the look with a belt like the J.McLaughlin Grasscloth Belt (also styled here) and Lace-Up Espadrille Wedges.
P.S. Another classic outfit for hot, humid summer days is my much-loved white shirtdress!
