Sharing my updated aesthetician-approved skincare routine I’ve been using after an amazing facial.
Almost two months ago, I found myself at Silver Mirror Facial Bar on a Sunday afternoon on a friend’s recommendation. It had been ages since I had a facial and I wanted to treat myself. My skin felt dull and dry after weeks of winter and definitely needed a boost.
I had a wonderful experience at Silver Mirror and highly recommend booking an appointment. They’re currently open in New York City, Washington, DC, and Miami. I loved their focus on efficient, customized facials and care for your skin.
Before my aesthetician began my 30-minute facial, she asked me about my skin challenges and had me walk her through my morning and evening skincare routines – down to the product. She took these into consideration and was incredibly thoughtful as she began my facial. I was impressed with her depth of knowledge on a variety of products’ ingredients and how they worked, or didn’t work, with my complexion.
There were a couple of products I had been using she suggested I either remove or lessen the numbers of uses per week. At the end of my facial, she provided me with a written step-by-step routine for morning and night. What really sealed the deal and impressed me was seeing she had rearranged the products I was already using and her two suggested purchases were very budget-friendly.
I’ve been to spas to get a facial where I felt pressured to purchase their in-house line or very expensive products through them. I understand, it’s a business. But it was a lovely change to not have that experience. Since my Silver Mirror facial, I have used this exact line-up and am loving the results. My complexion is more glowing, clear, and overall the redness is decreased.
My Aesthetician-Approved Skincare Routine
Morning Skincare:
Cleanse: I love my Trader Joe’s Facial Wash with Tea Tree Oil. My skin can get oily and I love how this cleanser removes the oil without drying my skin out or making it feel too tight.
Apply Toner: This rosewater toner was a new product my aesthetician suggested and I love it! I spritz the toner over my face, neck, and décolletage.
Apply Vitamin C Serum: I’ve been using Supergoop’s Daily Dose Vitamin C serum for awhile and was happy when she recommended I keep it in my rotation. Shake it well and apply two-ish pumps to the face, neck, and décolletage. It may appear to have a white cast at first but will quickly fade.
Moisturize: Another new product suggested after my facial, Neutrogena Hydro Boost moisturizer. I was initially skeptical how long this little, tiny jar would last me if I were to use it every day. This is one of those times where a little goes a long way and I only recently had to restock.
Addendum: If I’m going outside, I apply sunscreen as the final step. I reach for either Supergoop’s Matte Screen or their Glow Screen depending on my day.
Evening Skincare:
Cleanse: Again with my TJ’s facial wash, it’s the best!
Apply Toner: In the evenings, I use Glow Recipe’s watermelon toner. I had previously used the toner in the morning and evening but the aesthetician told me this toner does have an exfoliating effect and for my complexion, once a day was better to give my skin a break. It’s definitely made an impact.
Apply Serums: I then apply my natural retinol alternatives – Caudalie’s Resveratrol Lift (full review here) and Supergoop’s Daily Dose Bioretinol (full review here).
Moisturize: I purchased the Sanitas PeptiDerm moisturizer on her recommendation and again, I was impressed at how far this product goes. You really just need one pump for the face and neck.
Overnight Mask: I do this step at least twice in a week. She recommended Laneige’s Cica Sleeping Mask to help combat the redness on my cheeks. Holy cannoli, this mask is amazing!! It’s gentle yet effective and I can’t get enough. Plus, I love its smoothing scent – perfect for right before bedtime.
Addendum: About 1-2 times each week before I start my evening skincare, I use the Caudalie Vinergetic C+ mask to help minimize pores.
