Living in the Cupcake Capital

It’s no secret that I’m addicted to cupcakes (and any other baked good, really). So naturally when my mama was in town this weekend, we wanted to go to Georgetown Cupcake. Well, the line was absolutely ridiculous, even more so than usual. My mom and I decided we didn’t want to spend 45 minutes waiting in line for a cupcake that would take us less than 5 minutes to eat. Instead, we headed down to the new cupcake joint in town: Sprinkles, also located on M Street.

We walked instead and immediately were greeted with a cheerful “Welcome to Sprinkles!” Studying the handy guide to the different flavors, my mama and I selected our choices: my mother ordered a red velvet cupcake and I decided on strawberry. After we paid ($3.50 each), we sat down in their window booth to enjoy our cupcakes. They were delicious, especially if you love frosting like I do. Plus, they were substantially bigger than Georgetown Cupcake. Best of all, the line was reasonable at a less than 5 minute wait.

Plus a little fun fact: Sprinkles founder Candace Nelson is a Season 3 judge on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, one of my favorite shows! Cupcake Wars airs on Tuesday nights at 8ET on Food Network.

Today at work, I decided to take a little stroll on my lunch hour before eating. I wandered up to 18th & I and I spy the Curbside Cupcake truck, Pinky! I’ve followed Curbside Cupcake on Twitter for awhile (@CurbsideCupcake) but I’ve never had one of their cupcakes. Somehow, their famous Pinky trucks have eluded my cupcake-mania. I decided to get a red velvet cupcake ($3) and brought it back to the office.

I must say, I was a little skeptical of the quality of cupcake coming out of a food truck but I was pleasantly surprised. The cupcake was very moist and melted in my mouth and the frosting was sweet but not so sweet it will immediately give you a cavity. All in all, my red velvet cupcake from Curbside Cupcake was a perfect Monday afternoon pick-me-up!

I think cupcakes are so pretty. Sadly, they are usually way too sweet for me.
