This is a first. In the history of my cocktail posts, I’ve never posted about Jello shots. Until now. But it’s St. Patrick’s Day so it seemed as good a time as any to talk about Jello shots, right?
I remember the very first time I saw Jello shots. I was a flower girl in my mom’s friend’s wedding and was in the limo to head to take photos. The adults were all eating Jello and the bride, being very thoughtful and accommodating, had set me up with the fixings for Shirley Temples. Between the twirly skirt on my flower girl dress and the Shirley Temples, I was one happy camper. But I wasn’t sure why the adults had Jello that I couldn’t have. I even asked my mom about it and she said I’d learn when I was older. Many, many years later, I learned about Jello shots. Which brings us to today. And the most perfect Jello shots to have you celebrating St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
It all starts with the best ratio for the Jello shots.
1.5 cups non-alcoholic liquid (or 1 bottle of IZZE Sparkling Peach) + 1 cup booze + 2 gelatin packets = perfect Jello shots.
Instead of buying those little Dixie cups, I used an ice cube tray and it worked perfectly. If anything, the shots seemed stronger since they were a bit more concentrated. So fair warning.
For some reason in my head, I always thought that Jello shots were kinda high-maintenance and labor intensive to make. Nope. They are incredibly easy to make and take very little time to put together. A dangerous discovery, I might add.
If you want to go the cocktail route for the weekend, you should try out these St. Patrick’s Day themed Moscow Mules. Trust me.
I loved the IZZE Sparkling Peach flavor in these Jello shots and am already thinking about creating a Bellini Jello shot for my next brunch. Stay tuned…
Happy St. Patrick’s Day Weekend!
- 1 bottle IZZE Sparkling Peach
- 2 packets of non-flavored gelatin
- 1 cup vodka
- Pour the bottle of IZZE Sparkling Peach and top with the gelatin. Let sit at room temperature for 5 minutes. The gelatin will form a wavy layer over the IZZE. Just go with it.
- Over medium heat, heat the IZZE-gelatin mixture for about 2 minutes or until the gelatin is completely dissolved, stirring constantly. Check to make sure it is completely dissolved by dipping two fingers into the mixture and rubbing. You shouldn't feel any granules.
- Off the heat, pour in the vodka and stir to combine.
- Pour into the ice cube trays or into Dixie cups.
- Let freeze for 4 hours and then serve!
