What to Buy at the J.Crew Factory Sale

Faux Leather Leggings | @dcgirlinpearls

Happy Friday, guys!! After all the craziness of Halloween, I don’t know about you but I am absolutely looking forward to a quiet weekend. My rockin’ Friday night plans are tackling a list of to-do items for the blog that I’m really excited about and, after being in that awful rut for so long, I’m excited about being excited. I’m working on some really fun content thanks to your survey responses! If you didn’t get a chance to fill that out, no problem – here’s the survey link.

I had another post scheduled for today but I had to pop in to let you know about J.Crew Factory’s big weekend sale because some of my all-time favorite pieces (like the city coat!!!) are included. Use code “NEEDITNOW” to get 35% off (Discounts applied to the prices below).

City Coat – $115

I got the city coat last year at J.Crew on Black Friday – I was in Arizona for my family’s first Thanksgiving out West and was literally the only person looking at winter coats that day. In shorts, sandals and a tee. Definitely a 180 from my Thanksgivings in Buffalo ha! The city coat is so warm and I loved how the collar covers your neck, paired with a scarf and you are majorly insulated against the winter winds. And since I walk to work in a wind tunnel, I’m picky about making sure my winter coats keep me as bundled up as possible.

Which can be tricky to find a warm, bundled-up type winter coat that also looks sophisticated and put-together. Don’t get me wrong, there are definitely mornings when you gotta go with a full-length puffer coat or else risk turning into an icicle. But for more reasonable days, I reach for my city coat, especially if I have an after-work event.

I went between a 6 and an 8 when I was purchasing this coat and ultimately I went with the 8 to allow for more room for thicker sweaters and layers underneath. So I’d recommend sizing up! I purchased 8 Petite (I’m 5’3″ for reference) but I still had to have the sleeves hemmed.

I loved this coat so much that honestly, I’ll probably purchase another one this year. How pretty is the rose color city coat?!

Wool Skirt – $35

J.Crew Factory’s sidewalk skirt is a year-round staple in my closet. They make it in linen for the spring and summer and roll out the wool version once the temps cool down. I love wearing this skirt on a casual Friday to work in the fall and winter with riding boots (and tights, of course) and a blazer, it’s also great to wear for brunch on the weekends with over-the-knee boots. I love love love that the sidewalk skirt has pockets (one pocket for each phone!) and its elastic waistband makes this skirt pretty much made for the holidays.

J.Crew typically releases a plaid version of this skirt right around Thanksgiving so keep an eye out for that. Here’s how it looks in plaid – perfect for Christmas!

I sized up in the wool skirt to an 8 to get the extra length so I could wear it the office on Fridays.

Puffer Vest – $39

The Factory puffer vest has become a cult favorite over the years. Right now when the weather is still nice out, I love layering a puffer vest over a thick sweater to keep me cozy. Or using it to take a summer dress into fall, like my Lilly popover dress. And then when winter really hits, it’s a good piece to layer under a coat for extra insulation against the elements. I swear, my street creates a wind tunnel effect. The puffer vest comes in solid, neutral colors that will work with most of your closet. Their printed puffer vests are getting in on the sale action this time too and are also marked down to $39. I’m not big on camo pattern for myself but the navy gingham puffer vest is definitely up my alley.

Schoolboy Blazer – $64

I had to throw in a workwear piece into the sale! Although the wool skirt counts as casual workwear, right? The schoolboy blazer has been a staple of my professional wardrobe since I was an intern in college. My navy schoolboy blazer lasted for years and I finally replaced it last year with the exact same one. What can I say? If you love something…buy it in all colors? I also picked up the schoolboy blazer in camel to mix it up – the majority of my blazers were either navy or black.

It’s just such an easy piece to really pull an outfit together, especially on mornings when you didn’t plan ahead. Dress + blazer + statement necklace + tights + heels = an outfit that looks like you didn’t wake up in a panic about what you were going to wear that day.

Have a fun weekend!!
