Holiday Sangria

It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve posted a cocktail, doesn’t it? My sense of time is kind of all over the place. I’ve been in Buffalo this week taking care of Tommy and my parents’ house while they’re on vacation. In case you’re wondering, being a stay-at-home parent is exhausting. Last year as I packed to head back home, I was pretty ambitious about plans for the week. I was going to create a ton of blog content, see old friends, exercise and catch up on Skillshare classes. Like I said, ambitious. I was able to shoot a bunch of recipe and cocktail posts thanks to my parents’ kitchen and I finished an Adobe After Effects course. I’m ashamed to say I barely exercised…and I completely failed at seeing old friends.

It’s tricky to actually coordinate going out, especially when you factor in finding a babysitter. And a babysitter means having to be home by 10, which means leaving at 9:30. Plus, it’s hard to leave Tommy when he’s being extra sweet and wants to hang out with you while he watches Wheel of Fortune. He’s so funny, when you solve the puzzle, he claps and tells you “Good job!”

The best way, it turns out, to have your cake and eat it, too is to have your holiday sangria and drink it, too. Instead of going out with friends, I had friends come to me! It was a win-win: My friends and I had marathon catch ups and Tommy got to see them too. Surprise, surprise: He’s a giggly flirt. A big batch holiday sangria is easy to whip up for last-minute guests and makes you feel like a hostess with the mostest. Plus, there’s fruit involved so in the midst of the sweets-heavy holiday season, you can tell yourself you’re making the healthier choice. Take that, New Year’s Resolution!
