Sharing a delicious fig tartine recipe to add a flavorful appetizer to your Thanksgiving table! I would also bookmark for the holidays.

Easy Tartine Recipe

We are officially in crunch time for Thanksgiving! I grew up in a family where we would plan and prepare our Thanksgiving menu early. It made the last Thursday in November much less stressful and ensured we had all the ingredients lined up and ready to go.

This was especially critical for Thanksgivings growing up when we’d be preparing a meal for 20+ hungry people! Home cooking can be intimidating under the best of circumstances, never mind when it seems like everyone you know is gathering at your place.

Coming up with your menu early also is helpful to giving you peace of mind when you wake up on Thanksgiving morning. You already have your game plan ready to go!

In case you are still finalizing your menu (That’s absolutely okay!!) or are looking for a special appetizer to add into the mix, this fig tartine recipe is fantastic to create a delicious Thanksgiving appetizer in no time at all using Trader Joe’s Fig & Honey Batard.

I wish I had a “jump to recipe” feature but I promise to keep my chatter to a minimum!

Fig Tartine Recipe

This fig tartine recipe looks festive and is a snap to prepare and that’s why I love it. It’s really just a matter of grabbing all the ingredients and forming an assembly line. If you have a friend or relative who isn’t confident in the kitchen, they can absolutely help you with this recipe or take it on themselves.

But first, let’s chat about what a tartine is so we can all appreciate how wonderful this humble-looking appetizer truly is.

Thanksgiving Appetizer Tartine

What Is a Tartine?

Think of tartines as really fancy pieces of toast or open faced sandwiches. Bread slices lightly toasted create a blank canvas to add whatever toppings you’d like to put together a delicious appetizer or even a light lunch.

That’s what makes tartines so unique, you can make them whatever you’d like them to be! A few tartines I’ve made include candied walnut tartines with chèvre and cranberries, peach and goat cheese tartines, and a Mediterranean bruschetta take with a whipped jalapeño feta.

Tartine Recipe With Trader Joe’s Honey Fig Batard

Ingredients

1 Trader Joe’s Fig & Honey Batard, thinly sliced
1 cup ricotta cheese
1 tbsp honey (plus extra for drizzling)
1 tsp lemon zest
1/4 cup fig jam (I’m using Trader Joe’s fig butter)
Fresh thyme leaves (for garnish)
1/4 cup pomegranate seeds
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
Olive oil for drizzling
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Holiday Tartine Recipe

Step 1: Toast the Batard

Slice the Fig & Honey Batard into 1/2-inch thick pieces. Lightly toast in a pan with butter (I love Kerrygold) or olive oil until golden and crisp. You can also line the slices up on a baking sheet and crisp them in the oven.

Step 2: Whip the Ricotta

In a small bowl, mix ricotta cheese with honey, lemon zest, salt, and pepper. Whip until smooth and fluffy using a hand mixer or whisk. If you aren’t a fan of ricotta, fig and goat cheese pair really nicely!

Step 3: Assemble the Tartines

Spread a thin layer of fig jam onto each toasted slice, followed by a generous layer of whipped ricotta.

Step 4: Add the Toppings

Top the fig tartine with pomegranate seeds, chopped walnuts, and a sprinkle of fresh thyme. Drizzle a bit more honey and olive oil over the top for extra flavor.
