DIY Dancing Sugar Plums with IKEA DC

DIY Dancing Sugarplums with IKEA DC - DC Girl in Pearls

If I can’t have a Christmas tree in my tiny apartment, I will have glitter!! In Part III of my “DIY Holiday with IKEA DC,” we’re crafting a festive DIY to bring some glitz and cheer to your space.

When I think of IKEA, I usually think of furniture (namely my bed frame, Expedit wall unit and my trusty Omar for extra kitchen storage) first and foremost. But have you checked out Papershop? Papershop is where you can unleash your creativity with a collection of colorful wrapping paper, gift tags, honeycomb decorations and stationary! The sky’s the limit!!

I knew since I couldn’t have a tree, I had to have a decoration that screamed Christmas. I thought back to my favorite Christmas Eve story: ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by Clement Moore. When I was five years old, I knew that story by heart. But actually, I could recite it. And did many, many times. I always loved the line “visions of sugar plums danced in their heads.” In my five-year-old mind, who wouldn’t want to be dreaming of sweet, sugary candy?! So armed with glitter, let’s get started on an easy DIY to create a focal point at your next holiday party!

AND check out my other festive DIY with IKEA: giant honeycomb ornaments! And while you’re at it, enter to win an IKEA Raskog cart loaded with everything to being a baking goddess this Christmas. So many awesome things happening!!!

Supplies

IKEA Visionar in 11 3/4″

Gold glitter

Spray adhesive

Fishing wire

Duct tape

Scissors

Directions

1. Spray the adhesive to the honeycomb decoration and let it sit for about 15 seconds.

2. Place the honeycomb in a box or large container. Shake the glitter like T Swift is shaking it off. Let each honeycomb sit for at least an hour to ensure the glitter adheres to the decoration.

3. Tap the honeycomb to remove excess glitter.

4. Measure the length of the fishing wire to where you want the honeycomb to hang. Tape one end of the wire to the inside of the honeycomb and tape the other end to the ceiling.
