{Dining in the District}

Summer time in the District is truly one of my favorite things: there’s so much to see and experience that I am rarely at a loss for words when asked, “What should we do today?”

Besides the museums and monuments, DC has truly wonderful restaurants. My friend and I have an ever growing list of restaurants we want to try out. This week, we were able to cross two off the list: Bayou and Burger Tap & Shake. Now I have walked past Bayou countless times (it’s right near Trader Joe’s) but finally we went there for dinner. I love seafood and spice so the menu was just up my alley. I ordered a shrimp po boy and chose Cajun fries and mac & cheese (don’t worry, I went to the gym that day). The serving size was huge and I barely ate half so I enjoyed the leftovers the next day at lunch. In case you missed the Instagram photo:

Of course, no shrimp po boy platter would be complete without a Hurricane!

Yesterday, I had lunch with a friend who just accepted a campaign job taking him out of the District. We decided to get lunch so I said we should go to a restaurant he’s going to miss: this brought up to Burger Tap & Shake. I love burgers and fries so I was pretty excited but oh boy, I was in for a real treat!

I ordered their house burger, which is cooked medium and topped with lettuce, tomato and red onion. They also had an “AP Sauce” that is a mix of mayo, ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce and chipotle; however, I opted not to have the sauce. The reason? I gave in and ordered a “shaketail.” Cocktail + Milkshake = Shaketail.

I deliberated between “Stag Party” (Jim Beam Red Stag bourbon, cherry liqueur and vanilla ice cream) and “Talladega Nights ” (Firefly Sweet Tea vodka, house made limoncello, vanilla ice cream and lemon juice) but ultimately chose “Stag Party.” I haven’t had a milkshake in ages and this definitely hit the spot! It was sweet and I loved the cherry flavor, so totally worth the extra time on the Elliptical I did that evening.
