A Refreshing Blueberry Elderflower Hugo Spritz Mocktail
First, What Is A Hugo Spritz?
A Hugo Spritz is a light, refreshing cocktail. The spritz originated in the northern regions of Italy, particularly in the Alps and Austria. Known for its floral, citrusy, and slightly sweet flavors, it’s no surprise the Hugo Spritz has become a popular summer drink or whenever temperatures heat up.
A traditional Hugo Spritz is made with Prosecco, elderflower syrup or liqueur, soda water or sparkling water, fresh mint, and lime juice or lime slices.
Here’s how you make it: In a wine glass or tumbler, pour in the elderflower syrup or liqueur. Add a handful of mint leaves and gently muddle. Pour in the Prosecco and top off with soda water. Garnish with a lime slice and additional mint.
Trader Joe’s Blueberry Elderflower Beverage
Trader Joe’s debuted their Blueberry Elderflower Beverage and it immediately captured my attention. I love elderflower, it provides an aromatic floral note to any drink that I just cannot get enough of. St. Germain is one of my favorite liqueurs for this reason, adding a splash into my rosé spritz is a must.
The Blueberry Elderflower Beverage is a perfect way to get my elderflower aroma fix and feel like I’m having a fun, special drink, especially when I’m not in the mood to consume alcohol.
Blueberry Elderflower Mocktail Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup Trader Joe’s Blueberry Elderflower Beverage
1/2 cup sparkling water or club soda
1/2 lime, juiced
Fresh mint leaves
Fresh blueberries (optional, for garnish)
Ice cubes
Directions
Mix the Base: In each glass, add the freshly squeezed lime juice and a handful of mint leaves. Gently muddle the mint leaves to release their flavor. I use these Crate & Barrel white wine glasses for our cocktails and spritzes.
Add the Beverage: Add ice cubes to your glasses. Pour in Trader Joe’s Blueberry Elderflower Beverage.
Top with Sparkling Water: Fill the rest of the glass with sparkling water or club soda. You can also use sparkling water with lime if you don’t have a fresh lime on hand.
Garnish and Serve: Garnish with fresh blueberries and an extra sprig of mint.
The Blueberry Elderflower Hugo Spritz Pairs Well With…
Goat Cheese and Strawberry Salad: A salad with mixed greens, fresh strawberries (or any berries you love!), goat cheese, and a light vinaigrette would enhance the fruity and floral notes of the mocktail.
Bruschetta: A classic tomato and basil bruschetta on toasted baguette slices adds a savory contrast to the sweetness of the spritz. If you’re feeling adventurous, try my Mediterranean spin on bruschetta with a whipped jalapeño feta spread!
Scallops: Any excuse to indulge with scallops, right? Scallops, especially with a light citrus glaze, would complement the refreshing qualities of the drink. I love to use scallops to create a ceviche that packs so much flavor into one dish!
Lemon Bars: A citrusy lemon bar would be a lovely contrast to the blueberry and elderflower flavors.
