It is a truth universally acknowledged that when you’re a twenty-something on a budget, your shopping choices need to be as versatile as possible. If I can’t wear it to the office and on the weekend, I really can’t justify the purchase. Unless it’s ridiculously on sale. Like $10 on sale.
The other tricky part of clothes + jewelry shopping is that DC is a pretty conservative city in terms of office attire. It’s a tightrope walk to strike the perfect balance of a work outfit that is young, fresh and within-budget. I’ve decided to start doing more outfit posts that are cubicle-centered because frankly, while a lot of style bloggers put together awesome outfits, it’s rare to find an outfit I could replicate in my 9-6 life. What do you think about this idea? Yea or nay? Do you have an idea for a post?
I decided to start out with the statement necklace. I’ll be honest, I didn’t buy into the bubble necklace trend because I knew I would get a twitch the moment one of the bubbles fell off. And I normally just throw on a pearl necklace in the morning as I head out the door. Guilty as charged.
To switch up my statement necklace slump, I turned to BaubleBar. I have a necklace from here that I love (though it’s a strictly weekend wear), especially on a rainy Saturday to jazz up an outfit. But we can’t let Saturday + Sunday have all the fun, can we?! Look out Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. These necklaces will add a pop to your pantsuit, banish blazer blues + jazz up your favorite work black (or navy) dress.

Great idea! I work at a school, so I have to dress conservatively too. You’re right – most of the cute looks bloggers put together aren’t always appropriate for my work environment either!

Kristin, I totally get it. I’m going to work on more outfit posts to create looks we can both wear 9-5 🙂
