A Guide to Bubbly for New Year’s Eve

Pop fizz clink! 2016’s been a wild ride and while we’re all counting down until 2017 arrives, I’m focusing on the positive of New Year’s Eve: Bubbly and sequins!! I’m flying back to DC on Saturday afternoon and my friends and I are doing dinner at Medium Rare followed by ringing in the New Year with some bubbles (and punch). I’ve got my sequin skirt all ready to go and now I just need to pick up some bubbly on my way home from the airport. And I’ll be ready to ring in the new year! It’s becoming a blog tradition to share a guide to bubbly for New Year’s Eve, you don’t need to spend a fortune to toast 2017 with bubbles.

Start with the Veuve and work your way from left to right on each line to go from pricey to reasonable. Don’t worry, there’s a great selection of mid-priced champagne that packs the bubbles without emptying your wallet!

Veuve Clicqot is obviously the praise hands emoji of the reasonably-priced bubbly world and at $50 a pop (see what I did there?), it’s definitely worth the splurge. Trader Joe’s also carries Veuve Brut Rosé for $60. I’m not gonna lie, it’s tempting to bring in 2017 with rosé colored glasses!

But if you’re like me and are on a budget, the absolute best #1 deal for New Year’s Eve champagne is Charles de Marques Champagne. You can pick up a bottle for $19! Charles de Marques Champagne is probably the least expensive French champagne around but you wouldn’t know it based off the taste. It’s dry and light and doesn’t give you a sugar shock unlike other sparkling wines. If you want to ring in 2017 without blowing your Christmas bonus, Charles de Marques Champagne is the way to go! You better believe I’ll be picking up a bottle at Trader Joe’s once I get back to DC.

The next best deal is Blason de Bourgogne Crémant. At $10, Blason is produced in the Burgundy region of France using the Champagne method. So if you’re not a purist, Blason is your best bet! Blason has a fruity taste, which is why I pick this bottle up whenever I want to make a big batch bubbly cocktail. If you ring in 2017 with bubbly popsicles, Blason is your best bet.

For New Year’s Day brunches, I’d suggest you stock up on Trader Joe’s Blanc de Blancs for just $6 a pop. It’s very dry and crisp, which makes it perfect for mimosas or bellinis. When I hosted my post-birthday brunch birthday party, I brought out the Blanc de Blancs – it’s a crowd pleaser! And it keeps your wallet happy, too.
