If you wear it, spring will come. That totally works, right? With the weather all over the place, it’s been tricky to figure out when to break out the spring wardrobe and pack away the heavy winter sweaters and wool pencil skirts until next year. But since today’s the first day of spring, I think it’s time to make the official switch.
Here are the 5 pieces to help you transition your wardrobe now that spring has (kind of) sprung!
Floral Dress: Groundbreaking, I know. But I can’t help it – I love the bright colors and you know I’m a sucker for a good patterned dress. And the idea of not having to wear tights for the first time in months has me downright giddy! Bare legs mean Jacks season is just around the corner (#butfirstpedicure). You can wear a floral shift with a blazer for Monday and then layer it with a lightweight sweater for a weekend brunch with the girls.
Wellies: April showers in DC are no joke. More like April torrential downpours. My wellies are an absolute must-have for me in the spring, especially since my street gets puddles that are more like mini-lakes. I love my Hunter wellies and their bright pink hue. If you’re looking to invest in a pair, check out this guide to buying Hunter wellies from Kelly In The City. I also have a pair of Sperry wellies (Styled here) and I love them because of their fleece lining, it keeps my feet warm + cozy during a chilly spring rain. Sperry wellies run true to size – I love their quilted detailing.
Chambray Blazer: There’s just something about a blazer that can pull any outfit together. I picked up this chambray blazer last year and it quickly became a weekday favorite. I can’t wait to bring it back into my workwear rotation again!
Shift Dress: What can I say? I love wearing dresses! A solid colorful shift dress adds some happiness into a rainy spring day. Throw in the chambray blazer and you’ve got yourself an easy workday outfit for those mornings when you need to hit snooze a couple of times (Curse you, Daylight Savings).
Chambray Shirt: A chambray shirt might be the most versatile piece in my closet (Not counting the white button-down). I love tucking it into a pencil skirt to create a casual Friday look or wearing it with white jeans and wellies to run errands on Sunday.
