Happy Monday!! This Monday isn’t just any Monday, it’s a big day for me. Because… – you guessed it – I’m starting a new job today! It’s exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time, I feel like it’s the first day of school all over again. Starting the week off on the right foot is always helpful but starting the first week of a new job off right is clutch. You have an idea of what you’re walking into but you won’t really know until after the HR paperwork is completed, your computer is set up and you are off and running. Even though I’m used to working 40+ hours a week, it can be draining to learn the ropes and get your bearings at a new job. A girl’s gotta be prepared for anything. That’s why I spent my weekend doing these 5 things before starting my new job:
1. Plan Your Outfits for the Week: Down to the jewelry and shoes, I planned and prepped outfits for Monday through Friday. I made sure it went to the dry cleaners if it needed it, clothes were ironed and pressed, you name it.
2. Meal Prep Like a Champ: Just like I prepped my outfits, I prepped my meals. Overnight oats, chopped Greek salads and big batches of quinoa, roasted veggies and chicken breast are on the menu this week. Keep it simple and batch it out in Tupperware for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Future You will be so happy to come home to a dinner that’s ready-to-eat in minutes.
3. Deep Clean Your Home: There’s cleaning and then there’s deep cleaning. We’re talking scrubbing the floors and cleaning baseboards. It’s time to tackle those projects that always get pushed to the bottom of the list week after week. For me, I finally took a bunch of clothes to the local Goodwill. Having a clean home is just such a calming thing, I always sleep so much better when my bedroom floor is clear of any clutter.
4. Make Time for Yourself: I know I just told you to tackle some time-consuming tasks but it’s just as important to make time for yourself before starting a new job. Whether that means reading a good book (I just finished The Big Life by Ann Shoket + loved it!), listening to a podcast or taking a walk, you should make time to take a deep breath and relax. I took a favorite spin class to shake the nerves off and get the adrenaline going!
5. Celebrate: You’ve worked hard to get to where you are and you need to celebrate that achievement! I celebrated with friends and a couple (read: several) glasses of rosé – and I treated myself to a cute new pair of earrings.
