When it comes to New Year’s Eve, you immediately think of sequins, champagne and sparkle, right? Me too. But this year, I’d like to ring in 2015 a bit differently. I sat down and brainstormed what I want 2015 to look like. 2014 was a great for me but there are some parts of 2014 I’m happy to say sayonara to. To me, New Year’s is a fresh start, a clean slate. Which led me to think about which color symbolizes just that feeling. Duh, Lauren. Green, of course!!
Being the nerd that I am, I had to look up the official symbolism behind the green hue. According to the Google machine, green symbolizes growth, harmony and luck. Who doesn’t want that in 2015?!
Now that we had our color, it was time to concoct a cocktail. I decided to go with tequila. I know, I know. It’s crazy to talk about good luck and tequila in the same sentence, right? But I wanted a margarita and hey, jalapeños are green so two birds, one cocktail. Plus, I’ve been jonesing for jalapeños lately. So let’s start infusing tequila! Trust me, it’s not as intimidating as it sounds.
You simply slice up half of a jalapeño and place the jalapeño slices into the tequila, including the seeds. Give it a stir and then let them hang out for 24 hours at room temperature. BOOM! You now have jalapeño-infused tequila. Note to self: This is an awesome hostess gift.
Remove the jalapeño slices and pour about 3 cups worth of tequila into the pitcher. Whip up a simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water) and squeeze limes for juice. Combine all these ingredients into a pitcher to create a spicy drink to bring luck + harmony into 2015! As long as you drink responsibly, of course ; )
Ingredients (Creates 1 Pitcher)
1 bottle of tequila (3 cups for the cocktail)
2 jalapeños (1 for infusion, 1 for garnish)
Ice
Simple syrup
1.5 cups lime juice
Directions
Infuse the tequila: slice up half of a jalapeño and place the slices into the tequila. Let sit at room temperature for 24 hours.
Create a simple syrup: ½ cup water, ½ cup sugar whisked together.
Squeeze enough limes to get 1 ½ cup worth of juice. This usually takes about 4 limes.
Add the ice to a pitcher and combine the ingredients, stirring well.
Drop the jalapeño slices into the glasses for garnish + cheers to a new year and fresh start!
