Thirsty Thursday: Rosé Wine on a Budget

In the summer months when DC turns into a swampland and the humidity reaches unbearable levels, we Washington denizens elevate to the oases of rooftop bars and pools in the vain attempt to catch a breeze and cool off. If you are lucky enough to have a good friend who not only lives in a building that boasts a rooftop and is generous enough to invite you, you cannot show up empty handed. So what do you bring? Snacks, vegetables + meats to grill and needless to say, some type of adult beverage. After all, they are providing you with sweet, sweet salvation from the thick-as-soup air.

Rosé wine is, in my humble opinion, the crowned champion of summer wine. It’s light, crisp and fresh. And it happens to pair nicely with all of my favorite summertime menu items (how convenient is that?!): cold vegetables, seafood, and grilled chicken. Winner winner chicken dinner (with a glass of rosé). Oh, and it’s the wine of choice for Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl alter ego, which I definitely binge-watched, Netflix style.

But remember, I’m a twenty-something who doesn’t want to spend more money on the wine than my entire dinner (or grocery bill, for that matter). Thankfully, I’ve found a handful of excellent rosé wines for under $15 at my tried ‘n true Trader Joe’s and Wegman’s. If there’s an excellent rosé that you like, please share in the comments!
