{Winter Textures & Layers}

Although I am most definitely a spring/summer girl, I do delight in winter layers and bundling up. Even the word cozy instantly makes you feel warm and content.

While I was at home over Christmas, I certainly had to bundle up in layers and I spent most of my time wrapped up in a blanket!

The best part of layers is the mixing & matching. You can play around not just with different patterns but also with textures! Because let’s be honest, we all need a fun outfit to give us the motivation to get out of our warm, snuggly beds on a cold winter morning.

Puffy Vest School Pic

You might remember this photo from {Instagram} a couple of weeks ago when we had an impromptu “Take Your Daughter To Work Day” and I went back to high school with my mother.

This is easily one of my favorite winter ensembles. I love my puffer vest (I snagged it for $30 with monogramming!) because of its deep pockets and insulation. Paired with a Ralph Lauren cable knit, this outfit makes me feel like I haven’t left my warm blankets and pajamas. Cable knit is my absolute favorite in the winter and I wear it constantly. The fun texture give the sweater extra resistance against the cold and keeps you toasty…and cute!

The skirt is a camel plaid pattern from H&M circa 2004.

Oh my goodness. That skirt is from 2004. Wow. Fun fact: I purchased the skirt on my very first trip to DC the summer before I began high school.

A simple, casual work outfit for a Friday, I had a party of textures in this ensemble. I began with a simple black crewneck tee and my favorite wool skirt…and then went to town. I paired the skirt with my very favorite textured stockings. This stockings are like therapy, I’m serious. I always just feel so much better when I put them on and they add a whimsical touch to my day. I could probably write an entire post about how much I love these stockings…but I digress.

At first, I had been hesitant to pair these stockings with my tortoise shell ballet flats. My inner “matchy-matchy” voice, who sounds remarkably like my mother, said no. However, I threw my matchy-matchy inclinations to the wind and put them together. And I fell in love.

To tie the tortoise shell together, I added my tortoise shell belt into the mix. I was very happy with the result and it soothed my matchy-matchy inner voice.

Finally, my quilted riding jacket. I scooped up this piece last year at a consignment shop for a mere seven dollars!!! I am still excited about this find and alternate between this jacket and my navy peacoat for those chilly, windy DC winter mornings.

The plaid scarf is from Target and I just threw it on because it was chilly, you can see how I styled this scarf {here}.

How do you bundle up in the winter? Which textures and layers can you not live without?

    Love love love both of these outfits. I always struggle with dressing for winter- my go to is just to layer oxfords and pullover sweaters with jeans and boots, need to mix that up more! Such a cute idea to monogram your puffer vest too!
