2 Amys and Ben’s Chili Bowl

A couple of weekends ago, my roommate had friends visit from out of town. Naturally, we capitalized on their visit to go to some of our favorite D.C. restaurants!

The first restaurant was 2 Amys, located at 3715 Macomb Street NW. Normally, D.C. doesn’t excel at pizzerias but 2 Amys is fantastic! It’s a very warm (albeit noisy) environment to enjoy a meal with friends. I ordered the Santa Brigida pizza, which was margherita pizza with fresh arugula on top.

I love spicy food so I liberally dressed my pizza with red pepper flakes, yummy!

The next night for dinner,we went to Ben’s Chili Bowl on U Street. Ben’s is a famous D.C. eatery, known for remaining open during and after the 1968 D.C. riots following the assassination of MLK, Jr. There’s a sign at Ben’s that says the only people who can eat for free there are Bill Cosby and the Obama family.

When I go to Ben’s (which is rare), I usually order the vegetarian chili fries. Normally, I don’t eat chili fries but when you go to Ben’s, it’s a go big or go home mentality.

Note: I managed to eat my chili fries without spilling a single drop on my Murfee scarf!
