DC weather has been a Six Flags rollercoaster lately. One day I’m strolling around in a puffer vest and the next I’m bundled up in a blanket scarf, thick sweater and a puffer vest underneath my winter coat. The struggle is real, people. There’s a direct correlation between the temperature/wind chill and how much chai/hot chocolate I drink that day.
The weather rollercoaster takes a big toll on my skin. I feel like I woke up one morning and suddenly had zero/zilch/nada moisture in my skin. And that’s a big problem. Dry skin + liquid foundation is NOT a good look, guys. I’m prone to dry skin, especially on my face, elbows, knees and hands. Not cute. So it might come as no surprise that I take my skincare routine seriously. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize is my mantra otherwise I feel like a mummy. My skincare go-tos span from $4 to $25 and will last you well beyond this winter. Let me walk you through it!
Cleanse: I typically use Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Oil Face Wash (about $8) to wash my face at night. Once or twice a week, I use Trader Joe’s Pure Jojoba Oil as a cleanser and it’s remarkable how soft my skin feels in the morning. Bonus: Your hands will also thank you for softening them! The pure jojoba oil is also wonderful as a makeup remover.
Exfoliate: I’ve talked about St. Ive’s before, their exfoliation products has been a beauty mainstay of mine since middle school when I had probably an even simpler beauty routine. Natural exfoliants make your skin and the environment happy! Like I said, my skin is sensitive so I only exfoliate once a week and this St. Ive’s Even and Bright is the way to go. I’m a sucker for any good-smelling beauty product and this one also leaves my skin feeling healthy and soft.
Mask: Sunday has become my mask day. It’s a wonderful feeling to wash away the weekend’s grime (of the cocktails and late night eats variety) and start the week off on a fresh foot. Sunday masks are a therapeutic way to wind down my weekend so get on board! I was lucky to get a facial while I was home and the facialist recommended Epicuren Volcanic Clay Purifying Mask. It goes on incredibly smoothly and doesn’t leave any residue behind. I’ve noticed an uptick in facial lines since I started using this mask.
Spot Treatment: Okay let me level with you. I get pimples. Regularly. Sometimes they’re even painful and makes me internally curse my pores and wonder why on earth my complexion hasn’t gotten the memo that I’m no longer 16. Eradikate by Kate Somerville is my priciest item in my skincare routine BUT one jar will last you over a year so in the long run, it’s a pretty awesome price point. You can pick up Eradikate at Sephora. A little drop goes a LONG way to zapping a zit overnight. Thank god.
is there a hydrating mask you love? Let me know! Have a lovely weekend 🙂
