Before we get into the recipe, I have an amusing anecdote about daiquiris. When I was young (about 3 years old), my parents & I went on Easter vacation for 2 weeks in Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. I’d spend the day playing on the beach with my parents and then we’d go to a bar called “The Lazy Flamingo” (partially responsible for my love of flamingoes) for Happy Hour and I’d have an early dinner. My parents would order their drinks and the bartender gave me a virgin strawberry daiquiri, which I apparently loved. After vacation ended and we flew home, I visited my maternal grandma’s house and she asked me what my favorite part of the trip was. I informed her, “Grandma, you have to try a strawberry daiquiri! They’re delicious!” My grandmother was scandalized until my mother convinced her she was not, in fact, liquoring up her 3 year old granddaughter. The story lives in infamy within my family and when I turned 21, my first legal drink was a strawberry daiquiri.
So without further ado, the strawberry daiquiri:
Ingredients:
- -6 cups ice
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 4 oz frozen strawberries
- 1/8 cup lime juice
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- 3/4 cup rum
- 1/4 cup Sprite
Preparation:
- In a blender, combine, ice, sugar, and strawberries. Pour in lime juice, lemon juice, rum & Sprite. Blend until smooth.
Strawberry Daiquiris are a favorite of mine too. When I was in high school my family would go skiing for a weekend and the place we stayed at had a bar. The bartender would make me virgin daiquiris while everyone else was more adult beverages…..
