This year was the first Thanksgiving I did not spend at my grandparents’. Due to my work schedule, I could not leave DC. Instead my family came to me! My parents and brother, {Tommy}, drove to DC to celebrate Thanksgiving and my early birthday. We had a wonderful time cooking a delicious meal and desserts. I have not seen my family since August and this was the longest stretch of time where we did not see each other so needless to say, I was very excited to see them!!
To start, we went to {Columbia Firehouse} in Old Town Alexandria for dinner the first night. My mother and I adore onion rings and I am not exaggerating in the least bit when I say these were the best onion rings we’ve ever had. The best part? The restaurant was located in a renovated fire house! My father is a fire captain so we loved how they worked this detail into the decor.
My Martha Stewart of a mother made this incredible apple pie for my birthday. Pumpkin pie is okay but I am an apple pie girl through and through. She used two kinds of apples and drizzled caramel on the top crust. This pie was to-die-for scrumptious!!
My mother’s high school offers classes in horticulture and one of her students made this beautiful arrangement for our Thanksgiving table! I love the combination of sunflowers and roses. And the plaid ribbon, of course. Did I mention it’s arranged in a cornucopia??
I must have missed your birthday in all the chaos of the holiday! Happy belated birthday, I hope it was as fabulous as you are! xo JoJo
Aww thank you but my birthday is actually this Thursday!!
