I picked up the newest Supergoop’s newest Daily Dose addition earlier this summer to try it out and see if this serum could combine the protection of SPF with the promise of anti-aging results. Today, I’m sharing my Supergoop Bioretinol Review!
Supergoop has been a regular cast member of my daily skincare production for a few years now. My first foray into the brand was their illuminating Glowscreen, which gives you a dewy look while providing SPF 40 coverage. I loved how it made me feel like I had subtly applied highlighter even when I was completely sans makeup. From there, I quickly added more to my collection. Supergoop Daily Dose Vitamin C was next and then came their Resetting Powder – perfect for middle-of-the-day face touchups when you’re out and about and need to re-up your sun protection. The powder is also amazing if you’re like me and start feeling a little oily after being outside in the sun’s rays for a while.
I stopped into Sephora earlier this summer to re-stock on my Supergoop favorites when I noticed a new addition to their Daily Dose lineup. With its purple dropper top, the Supergoop Bioretinol certainly stands out in a sea of Supergoop’s yellow cap. I was initially a bit hesitant to purchase. While I am definitely a superfan of Supergoop products, I felt like I had the retinol portion of my routine covered and I already regularly used their Daily Dose Vitamin C. The power of Sephora won and I thought, what the heck, I’ll give it a whirl.
Supergoop Bioretinol Review
How is Supergoop Bioretinol Different From the Other Daily Doses?
The Daily Dose line includes Vitamin C, Bioretinol, and Hydra-Ceramide Boost. The only one I have not personally used is the Hydra-Ceramide Boost. The Hydra-Ceramide Boost is a lightweight oil containing hyaluronic acid and is best recommended for dry skin to lock in moisture. Since I have combination skin, this Daily Dose isn’t for my needs.
I can say from my experience the Vitamin C and Bioretinol are vastly different from each other almost from the get go. The Vitamin C is packaged with Supergoop’s iconic yellow cap and has a pump top while the Bioretinol has a purple dropper top. Although the Vitamin C comes out initially as a white serum, it quickly absorbs into the skin, leaving no white cast whatsoever. The Bioretinol has a natural beige tint to it (thanks to English oak bark extract) that also is fast-absorbing and blends well with a variety of skin tones.
Beyond their impressive absorption rates, these two Daily Doses work excellently under makeup and do not leave pilling on the skin. I frequently wear one of the Daily Doses under my makeup for that “lit from within” glow.
What Even Is Bioretinol?
Bioretinol is another way to say “Bakuchiol,” which has grown in popularity in recent years as a gentler, natural, plant-based alternative to retinol. As anyone who has experienced the realization their “going out” songs are now on playlists in grocery stores knows, retinol is a powerful ingredient that works to reverse signs of aging. But retinol can also be harsh on the skin after years of use and with that, Bioretinol enters the chat.
Supergoop Bioretinol contains 1% Bakuchiol to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
How To Apply Supergoop Bioretinol
Supergoop Bioretinol is meant to be applied during the daytime. I wash my face, apply toner, and then apply about 4-5 drops of Bioretinol to my face and neck. I typically put any residual serum on the backs of my hands. Supergoop recommends 6-8 drops but that was just too much for my skin to absorb. I would recommend playing around to find the amount that works for you.
While there is natural beige tint to this serum, that does not affect the skin’s appearance once it is absorbed. But you will notice your skin looks dewy and refreshed almost instantly!
I then wait around 5-10 minutes while I do my hair. And then finish off with SPF – either Glowscreen or Mattescreen.
Other Benefits of Supergoop Bioretinol
Remember that English oak bark extract? Beyond providing the natural beige tint to the serum, this extract also provides antioxidant benefits. This Daily Dose also contains a collagen-boosting peptide, L-Carnosine. L-Carnosine works to boost collagen, support skin firmness, and help filter blue light.
So, yes, you should wear SPF when you’re indoors!
My Honest Supergoop Bioretinol Review
After using Supergoop Bioretinol in my summer routine, I’ve noticed a reduced appearance of fine lines on my forehead. I do think this daytime serum works really well in tandem with my nighttime retinol alternative.
I was also pleasantly surprised at how long this bottle has lasted! With its dropper, I expected this Daily Dose would not last as long as my Daily Dose Vitamin C but I was wrong. I typically switch days between the Daily Dose Vitamin C and the Daily Dose Bioretinol although I have used them both together – I finished with the Mattescreen so that I wouldn’t look too shiny on my video meetings.
My final thoughts: Supergoop Bioretinol delivers on combining the protection of SPF with the results of an anti-aging serum.
