Last week, I thought more about makeup than I have probably in the last couple of months. While other girls love playing with different eyeshadows and lip stains, I would much rather spend time trying on outfits.
I wear eyeliner, foundation, mascara and lip balm every day. My makeup routine has remained the same since the last Administration. No joke.
However, this week, I had the awesome opportunity to model a dress for {Rent the Runway} on {WJLA’s Let’s Talk Live}. The chance to wear a $700 dress?? I said “yes” in a heartbeat. But there were a couple of issues.
My daily makeup routine would certainly not cut it for TV. And thanks to stress/being on the phone all day on Monday & Tuesday, I had an awful zit on my chin. Ready for my closeup I was not!
I went to {Sephora} and cornered one of their artists, begging for advice on eyeshadow. I have {Too Faced Natural Eye} but I wanted an expert to weigh in on this matter.
If I, the perpetually worrier of over-applying makeup, can handle this kit, you can, too. I pinky promise. The makeup artist patiently walked me through how to create the perfect smoky eye. And didn’t bat an eyelash when I asked her to write everything down because that’s my learning style. Highly recommend this for those amateur eye shadow gals (counting myself on that one).
To ensure a flawless look, I also suggest {Too Faced Shadow Insurance}. This little primer packs a big punch in a small drop. It prevents creasing, fading and blurring. Basically everything you (read: I) worry about when applying eye makeup.
Remember my ahem less than stellar breakout? While at Sephora, I asked for a quick fix solution. Meet {EradiKate}. A little dab on the affected area and by morning, the monster was downsized significantly. For a mere $22, this is a great steal for those times when your complexion decides to re-visit high school.
The finishing touch was a pop of color on the lips. Usually, my Burt’s Bees lip balm replaces lip stain…but I may be a convert to NARS. {Dragon Girl} was a fiery red but had a shade of pink that made this pink lady happy. Best part? It lasted all day!
It was rather nerve wracking but I did it!! Remember to do one each day that scares you. I think between the eye makeup and appearing on live TV, I covered a couple days in one go : )

I use that same Too Faced shadow primer. It’s amazing!

It definitely made a difference in the eye shadow staying in place!
