A complete, 100% disclaimer: I originally planned to do this post on Rules of Civility. However, between starting my new job and developing a case of the sniffles, I didn’t finish in time. Stay tuned til next week for Rules!
Over the summer, I read {The Happiness Project} by Gretchen Rubin.
Lawyer-Turned-Writer Gretchen begins a year long journey to improve her overall happiness. In true lawyer form, Gretchen creates a systematic approach to monitoring and tracking the progress and setbacks of her happiness. The Happiness Project takes us through her year and includes helpful ideas for charts and methods to chase away the blues.
I had mixed feelings about The Happiness Project. While I found the psychology and research tidbits interesting, I thought the overall systematic approach counterintuitive to the happiness goal. For me, the whole schema would cause too much stress that would dismantle the entire project. I did enjoy the different areas Gretchen sought to improve (i.e. organizing the house, trying new pursuits) and found it inspiring to try in my own life…perhaps a future post in the works?
