After more than a decade without glasses thanks to LASIK, I needed to get an eye exam + headed to a Warby Parker shop in DC. Here’re the details of my first-ever Warby Parker experience:
Back in May 2011, I was very fortunate to get LASIK. At that point, I’d worn glasses/contacts for a majority of my life + was pretty much useless without them. My distance vision was laughable and vaguely Mr. Magoo-like. Oh, and I also have astigmatism. LASIK completely changed my life + immediately after walking out, I didn’t need my eyeglasses anymore.
Fast forward to Fall 2021 + I had come to the realization that my eyes were changing + once again, my long distance vision wasn’t as sharp as it had once been. I even experienced some blurring around the chyrons on the TV screens in my office. I could still read them but they weren’t crystal clear like they had been. Since it had been awhile (i.e. a decade) since my last eye exam, I didn’t have an eye doctor in DC. So I decided to set up an eye exam at the Warby Parker store in Union Station, with the understanding that I’d likely be walking out with an order for a pair of glasses as well.
Quick note: Your eyes do typically change 10-15 years after getting LASIK so it’s common for people to need “touch ups.” I plan to get a LASIK touch up but LASIK is a very pricy procedure + right now my financial focus is on saving up for our wedding in summer 2022. So, at this moment, eyeglasses made the most sense for me.
Through their website, I was able to quickly get an eye exam appointment at Warby Parker in Union Station. I was really impressed by their staff, they were friendly, attentive, + helpful with picking out eyeglasses frames. Their optometrist was thorough in her examination + patient as we went back + forth between “1…or 2” over + over again.
As suspected, I needed a slight prescription for eyeglasses. I tried on a few different pairs to see which ones felt most like me + ultimately went with their Ainsley eyeglasses in Marzipan Tortoise. I went with the wide frames for this style because I felt like the arms on the medium width pair were pulling just a tad too much for my liking. I’d highly recommend trying on the styles in-person because on other styles, the wide frames were way too much for me.
My eyeglasses arrived about a week later + I’ve been so happy with how they look + feel +, most importantly, how much clearer I can see with them! I expected to really only wear them in the evening and sometimes at work. But I’ve found I’m wearing my glasses more than that just because seeing everything crystal clear once again is just too good to pass up.
