SPF has been part of my routine every day for years to protect my skin from the sun. Sharing my favorite daily SPF sunscreens that I love!
Sun Bum // Supergoop Vitamin C Serum // Jan Marini Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant
I’ve been in wonderfully sunny Arizona for a week now and almost immediately, I could feel the effects of serotonin from being out in the sunshine. I’m taking advantage of it while I can – it’s incredible how making small changes, like doing my Pilates/yoga flow outside, can give me such a boost of joy.
But as someone covered in freckles and beauty marks and with a family history (on both sides) of melanoma, I take my sun protection VERY seriously. I’ve been joking with my friends that I’m going to be come back to DC as sunkissed as my SPF 50 and sun hat (my post raving about my sun hat here) will allow!
It’s a little early for me to get on my soapbox and talk about the importance of wearing SPF every single day but I’m in the actual valley of the sun this week so the timing felt right. Adding an extra step to your morning routine can sometimes feel like a lot but trust me, applying SPF daily will help your complexion, boost any anti-aging skincare you’re already doing (less sun damage = fewer wrinkles), and could possibly save your life.
I get a full body scan every two years, that’s the schedule my dermatologist recommended for me. It can be a little awkward and uncomfortable but I always feel a big sense of relief knowing that I’ve gotten checked. I’m due for a scan in June so I’ll be calling soon to schedule my appointment.
Applying SPF every single day has been a part of my morning skincare routine for years now and I love that my products quickly absorb. I usually apply about 5-10 minutes before I head out the door to give it time to blend in. Here’s what I use every day:
Supergoop Vitamin C Serum
I have an entire post devoted to how this serum made SUCH a difference in my complexion. I’ll let you read about the benefits of this serum over there. In the morning, I wash my face (Trader Joe’s Space Face Wash with Tea Tree Oil), apply toner (Beautycounter Hydrating Essence), and then apply Supergoop Vitamin C Serum. Your skin will look a bit shiny at first but that only lasts a few minutes.
Supergoop Glowscreen was my gateway into the world of the brand and if I’m heading out to meet with friends, Glowscreen will be my next and final step before I head out. It gives you that dewy, sunkissed glow that makes you look like you just got back from a vacation.
But for everyday use, my go-to SPF sunscreen is
Jan Marini Antioxidant Face Protection
This product came into my routine years ago from an aesthetician at a spa in Buffalo. My mom and I loved her facials and she recommended this product for daily use. A little bit goes a long way and a tube will last you awhile! I like wearing it on its own but makeup also blends seamlessly into it, this antioxidant face protection acts really well as a primer.
Sun Bum
With James’ and my wedding this summer, I’ve laid out in the sun a few times in my parents’ backyard to get a little tan. I like using Sun Bum SPF 50 for my sun tan lotion, it absorbs fairly well (I’ll get a few small white balls of lotion gathered around my elbows and knees), but I feel Sun Bum provides great coverage.
