The old fashioned is one of those cocktails that always catches your eye on a menu. It’s a classic and just seems so effortlessly sophisticated. Forget Mary, there’s something about the old fashioned.
I’ve ordered many an old fashioned at the bar (Stanton & Greene is a favorite!) and decided it was time to learn how to make an old fashioned at home. So to master the old fashioned, I went to the master: Maker’s Mark.
The recipe below came directly from Maker’s Mark so you know you’re in good hands. Believe it or not, learning how to make an old fashioned properly is really quite easy. It’s just a matter of having your bar properly stocked. Once you’ve got the ingredients, it’s smooth-as-Maker’s sailing. Next time you’re entertaining or you feel like being fancy and treating yourself, try your hand at making an old fashioned. If you want to get extra fancy schmancy, these Maker’s Mark bourbon flavored cherries are out-of-this-world good. I’ve even put them on top of some ice cream. No regrets.
P.S. I highly recommend sphere ice molds – they look so cool and really take it up a notch!
