Life Lately – 2/23/22

It’s been awhile so I wanted to share a little bit about life lately – spoiler alert: BIG life updates are coming this month!

Happy Wednesday! February has been a month of BIG changes for me. First things first, I had been waiting for weeks for February to arrive because I had scheduled neuro tests this month to hopefully put pieces together to my recent health puzzle. As I’m typing this (Tuesday morning), I’m also getting ready to head to the hospital for the last (as of right now) test. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly!

The BIGGEST update is that James is moving to the DC area!!! Trust me, it took a lot of self-restraint to limit my punctuation in the last sentence to only three exclamation points. For those who may not know, James is my fiancé and is in the military. We’ve been long-distance (of varying distances) throughout our four year relationship. Our wedding is planned for this summer so we are both ecstatic that the end of long distance is within sight. We’re in the final countdown!!

When we found out James was coming to DC, I got to work cleaning out my closets + making room for him in my apartment. It also hit me that I’d have to shift my mindset from cooking for one to cooking for two! I immediately ordered this cookbook, The Dude Diet Dinnertime, by my long-time favorite food blogger, Serena, to help map out our weekly menus.

Reading: I’ve been on a pretty solid reading streak lately. Right now, my book club is reading The Targeter about CIA operations in the early 2000s. It’s fascinating but definitely a heavy non-fiction read, I really only have been able to read around 20 pages in the evening before bed.

Eating: My mom + I ventured out to Virginia to check items off our wedding planning list. We stopped into Clyde’s (they also have locations in DC) for lunch. I always forget how delicious + satisfying steak wedge salads are, I really need to start making them at home! Like we talked about above, I will be abruptly shifting how I approach meal planning. James’ portions are significantly bigger than mine + he eats more meat than I do. I selected a handful of recipes from The Dude Diet Dinnertime that I thought we would both enjoy + asked James to pick two. I’ll report back how these meals go!

Drinking: I had friends over on Friday for a casual evening. My mom + I picked up a few bottles of wine at Trader Joe’s, including this new-to-me sauvignon blanc. Claire Patelin Sauvignon Blanc is crisp, dry, + delicious for its price. Highly recommend you add it to your cart next time!

Loving: With springtime right around the corner, my mind has been thinking of my favorite springtime outfits – from flowy dresses to strappy sandals (note to self: get a pedicure). I love this gingham satchel bag from Talbots for spring + J.McLaughlin’s Shirin Mini Wicker Top Handle is just too cute for words! You can also never have too many white sneakers during spring + I just saw that Rothy’s has a bright white sneaker in their collection now. I love their pointed flats + want to check out if their sneakers are just as comfy!

Bringing Me Joy: Monday was such a beautiful day + full of sunshine!! It felt so great to be outside + feel the sun on my face. It made me even more ready to ditch the parkas and gloves + for springtime to arrive in DC.
