Is there a secret single behavior you have? A quirk or weird pleasure that you ONLY do when you’re home alone?
This post is incredibly, on-the-nose timely. Today is the end of an era. After nearly a decade of living by myself, today James moves into my apartment. Our apartment. I keep catching myself calling it “my apartment” but hey, old habits die hard.
I am SO excited to close the long-distance chapter of our relationship. It’s been four years!! For the last few weeks, I’ve been clearing out my closets + shelves, made a HUGE donation drop, + brainstormed how to best fit two people + one adorable hound dog into a city apartment.
It also hit me that the next few weeks will be an adjustment period. From coordinating morning shower schedules to planning out our weekly dinners, I’ve had to think about things that I haven’t had to think about in, well, ever. Including some of my habits or shortcomings – like how I inexplicably am really bad at closing cabinets after opening them.
The closing of the “Living By Myself” chapter also closes out the “Secret Single Behavior” chapter.
Do You Have A Secret Single Behavior?
Made famous by Carrie Bradshaw, “Secret Single Behavior” are quirks + weird pleasures that you ONLY indulge in when you’re home alone. For me, my quirk typically manifests on Fridays after a long week at work. Five days of emails, breaking news, tweet notifications. When Friday rolls around, I just need a little quiet. Though I sometimes hear phantom phone vibrations – anyone else?
I like to start my weekend unwinding with a glass or two of wine, a Whitney Houston/Celine Dion playlist, my comfiest old oversized tee, + a pair of sweats . Sometimes I’ll add a bowl of buttery, salty popcorn. Other times, a face mask is needed. Usually I’ll add a dance component. Because, hey, there’s no one around to judge my dorky moves!
Of course, I realize this isn’t a permanent ending of a chapter + there will be many dance parties in my future. And it goes without saying that I’ll have many fun adventures with my forever roommate. This year is bringing many life changes for me – from our summer wedding to my job ending at the end of the year. So with each new chapter’s opening, sentimentality + nostalgia are running rampant.
Okay, it’s your turn to dish. Do you have a “Secret Single Behavior?”
