As I write this, I’m at BWI Airport at 7 a.m. Yup, that’s right. I’ve been awake since about 4:30 a.m. to hop on my Super Shuttle. In a perfect world, I would have packed ahead, did a final light cleaning of my apartment and leisurely fell asleep around 10 the night before to ensure I woke up as fresh as a daisy. Nope, that didn’t happen. I finally crawled into bed around midnight and didn’t really sleep well: visions of oversleeping kicked the dancing sugarplums right in the keister. As I was running around getting set to leave, I had vague ideas of putting on makeup in the vain hope I could resemble a human being. But then I decided it was far too early and I was way too exhausted to trust myself with anything pointy in the vicinity of my eyeballs. (“Mom! I missed my flight because I poked out my eye trying to make myself not look like a zombie for TSA!”) Sorry, eyeliner but you’ve been benched. Take a lap.
So now I’m waiting for my plane and willing the clock to move faster so I can get on my plane, curl up and pass the eff out. I love the Christmas season and am so excited to be going home for the holidays but this hustle + bustle is downright exhausting. UPDATE: I fell asleep just as they started their safety schpiel and didn’t wake up until my plane landed in Buffalo. Got my luggage, my dad picked me up and we went to get bagels. The moment I finished my poppyseed bagel, I faceplanted onto the couch for 2 hours. It’s good to be home.
