Joining up with some fun ladies to share FOUR blood orange cocktails to cheers Galentine’s and Valentine’s Day with! My cocktail is a blood orange bourbon smash, of course 😉
It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a cocktail recipe and if I do say so myself, this blood orange bourbon smash is a good one to kick off 2020!
Fresh blood orange juice, bitters, bourbon + a splash of seltzer are all that stands between you and happy hour. Trust me, you will love this tart, fizzy cocktail! It’s perfect for your Galentine’s Day get-together, Valentine’s Day date night (Check out my #CookWithLauren Highlight on Instagram for easy dinner ideas!), or if for a delicious Sunday Funday drink to sip.
Let’s get cocktail-ing!
Starting with the juice squeezing because that’s the hardest part of the blood orange bourbon smash – and it’s not even that hard. Simply squeeze the blood oranges and then strain to remove any pulp. Unless you like a little pulp. My blood oranges were quite small so I used about 2 oranges per cocktail. You want about 4 tablespoons of fresh juice for each blood orange bourbon smash.
And I strained because I’m a big baby when it comes to pulp…
Load up your cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the blood orange juice, dash of bitters (about 4-5 shakes), 2 shots of bourbon (I used Maker’s) and shake shake shake!
Add ice to your cocktail glasses. Side note: I love using my stemless wine glasses from IKEA for cocktails. They’re $1.50 each, very durable, and dishwasher-safe. Highly recommend!
Strain your cocktail into the glasses and top with Trader Joe’s Seltzer with a Splash Blood Orange + Orange Juice. I’m not typically a big seltzer person (I don’t like LaCroix *gasp*) but this is a seltzer I drink on its own. It adds a fizzy punch to this cocktail!
Monica, Claire, and Emily also created blood orange cocktails using gin, vodka, and tequila! Use up the rest of your blood oranges with their delicious concoctions 😊Cheers!
