Tonight is the end of an era.
I discovered Parks and Recreation several years ago when a bad cold left me in bed for a few days and I needed a show to binge on Netflix (the classic girl meets show scenario). And I immediately fell head over heels in love. Amy Poehler + political satire = WIN WIN WIN in my book. But the roots of my love actually go farther back:
My first job ever at the ripe old age of 16 was working for my town’s recreation department. I started as a lifeguard and later became a swim instructor and while our antics were never quite like Pawnee’s, I loved that job. Playing Sharks + Minnows or a kid mustering up the courage to dive into the deep end, I’ll cherish those memories.
And what’s the statute of limitations on instigating an all-out water brawl between counselors and campers? Asking for a friend…
With each episode, I prayed to the local government gods there’d be an episode featuring Pawnee’s aquatics department. Alas, it never happened. But I still maintain an episode with Leslie dealing with a situation where the pool water keeps emptying due to the paunchy local kids constantly doing cannon balls would have been hilarious.
Clearly, I’ve thought about this more than I should admit.
I also immediately clicked with Leslie being a history + politics nerd myself. And Ben Wyatt is a nerdy dreamboat.
To celebrate Parks and Recreation, I created two prints to download with two of my favorite lines that I quote far too often.
Who else will be watching the series finale tonight?! With waffles on hand, of course!
